Centering Scripture: “Declare His glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!” Ps 96:3

Our Order of Worship for Christmas Eve

Welcome and Announcements

Call to Worship

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice. The grace of God has come to save us.

God has called and chosen us to hear good news. God's marvelous works are new every morning.

Glory to God in the highest. Peace on earth to all who please God.

We seek to honor God in this time of worship. We want to see for ourselves what God has done.

ALL: Come, let us worship God.

Reflective Interlude

A TIME FOR PRAISE AND PRAYER

Praise Songs: #249 “O Come, All Ye Faithful”

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant

O come ye, C come ye to Bethlehem!

Come and behold Him - born the King of angels!

O come, let us adore Him! O come, let us adore Him!

O come, let us adore Him - Christ, the Lord!

Prayer of Invocation

Speak to us again, God of glory, for we are slow to hear. Remind us of the good news, for we are prone to forget. Take us to see Jesus, for we have lost our way. We are weary and worn. We cry out for the truth that is eternal. O God, grant us the joy of your presence and the assurance of your steadfast love. Let all creation join together in celebration of the Word made flesh. Amen.

Presentation of Offering #290 "As With Gladness..." vs 3

As they offered gifts most rare at that manger rude and bare,

So may we with holy joy, pure and free from sin’s alloy,

all our costliest treasures bring, Christ to Thee our heavenly King.

Prayer of Offering Dedication (In Unison)

All that we have comes from you, O Holy One, and we thank you for your generosity. Your blessings are abundant and varied: help us recognize not only those that are obvious, but also those that are less so. Keep us mindful of our dependence upon you and of our call to live lives of purpose and meaning. We pray this, trusting in you and your desire to guide us in ways of compassion and generosity. Amen.

Hymn #631 “Lord’s Prayer”

A Call to Christmas: “Joy To The World”

And heav’n and nature sing, And heav’n, and heav’n and nature sing.

Hymn #250 “O Little Town of Bethlehem”

O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie!

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.

Yet is thy dark streets shineth the everlasting Light,

The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

Scripture reading: Luke 2: 8-12

Hymn #269 “How Great Our Joy!”

While by the sheep we watched at night, Glad tidings bro’t an angel bright.

How great our joy! Great our joy! Joy, joy, joy! Joy, joy, joy!

There shall be born, so he did say, in Bethlehem a Child today.

Hymn #278 “Angels We Have Heard on High”

Angels we have heard on high, sweetly singing o’er the plains

And the mountains in reply, echoing their joyous strains.

Gloria in excelsis Deo, Gloria in excelsis Deo!

Come to Bethlehem, and see Him whose birth the angels sing.

Come, adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the newborn King.

Gloria in excelsis Deo, Gloria in excelsis Deo!

Scripture reading: Luke 2:15-16

Hymn #262 “Away in a Manger”

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,

the little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head

The stars in the sky looked down where He lay;

The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

Scripture reading: Luke 2:17-20

Hymn: #258 “Go, Tell it on the Mountain”

Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere;

Go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born!

Down in a lowly manger the humble Christ was born,

And brought us God’s salvation that blessed Christ morn!

Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere;

Go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born!

Message: “The Manger, Shepherds, and Angels!”

Litany of Unity! From the cantata: “A World of Christmas” by Joe Martin

There is one body and one Spirit - just as you were called to one hope - one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.

There are different kinds of gifts

but the same Spirit.

There are different kinds of service,

but the same Lord.

There are different kinds of working,

but the same God works all of them in all people.

There are many tribes and languages, many nations and peoples

many parts,

but one body. If one part rejoices,

every part rejoices with it

but if one part suffers,

every part suffers with it.

Therefore, be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Bless those who persecute you.

Rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn. Share with those in need. Feed the hungry; give shelter to the wanderer. Clothe the naked; care for the sick. Where there are chains of injustice, loose them. Where people are oppressed, set them free,

For behold, I tell you the truth; When you have done it to one of the least of these, you have done it unto me.

We will serve one and all in love! Amen.

Hymn #253“Silent Night”

Silent night, holy night, All is calm, all is bright

Round you virgin mother and Child, Holy Infant so tender and mild,

Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night, Shepherds quake at the sight,

Glories stream from heaven afar; Heavenly hosts sing alleluia,

Christ the Savior is born! Christ the Savior is born!

Silent night, holy night, Wondrous star, lend thy light,

With the angels let us sing Alleluia to our King,

Christ the Savior is born! Christ the Savior is born!

Silent night, holy night, Son of God, love’s pure light

Radiant beams from Thy holy face, with the dawn of redeeming grace,

Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.

Commission and Blessing

Carry the peace of Christ into the world. Glorify and praise God in all you do.

We will tell of what we have seen and heard. The Good News of great joy is for all people. Amen.

Benediction

Choral Benediction #271 “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore You:

Joyful, joyful, we adore You, God of glory, Lord of light;

Angels lifting praise before You sing thro’out this holy night.

In a manger lies a Baby - Child of Mary, Son of God.

Voices joined in joyful chorus Praise You for Your gift of love.
