Introducing the Newest Members of the 2003 Board of Directors

Once again, thank you for your nomination submissions for the open offices of Vice President (President-Elect) and Secretary. There were two nominations for VP of which one of the nominees graciously declined the nomination. Since there was only one nominee for each office, balloting by the general membership was not necessary. Please welcome aboard:

Vice President: Susan Katz, CHMM

Sue Katz has been performing EHS functions at Pratt & Whitney for the last seven years, most recently as a Senior EHS Coordinator. Sue earned a BS in Earth Science from CCSU and a MS in Environmental Management and Policy from Rensselear. Sue has been a CHMM since 2001 and is excited to bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the Chapter.

Secretary: Heather Galarneau, CHMM

Heather Galarneau has ten years professional experience in EHS. Heather’s work experience includes regulatory compliance, aquatic toxicity and performing scientific reseach. Heather has been an active member of the Chapter since becoming a CHMM in 2001.

Also new to the CT ACHMM team . . .

Matt Twerdy, who is the Government Affairs liaison for the Chapter, is a Senior Project Scientist with Fuss & O’Neill.

President’s Message

What’s In Store for 2003!

I would like to start my term by thanking the recent past Presidents and Vice Presidents, Stuart Manley and Nick Zackeo. Their hard work and efforts have provided the foundation and structure for the CTACHMM as it exists today. Accomplishments during their terms have included the development of our chapter by-laws, a combined invoicing dues program with the national ACHMM, and launching of our current web-site. I hope to build on those achievements so that we can continue the strong momentum that has developed during their terms.

The chapter has received requests from some of the members to improve communications. To respond to that request, we will attempt to produce this newsletter every two months. Please provide information to Rose Coggeshall regarding items (e.g. job openings) that members would like to have available to others. We hope that the information in the newsletter will be a useful resource to the members as well as a good source of information on CTACHMM activities and events.

The Board of Directors would like to thank the general membership for their participation in the recent nomination for officers. We would also like to extend an invitation to all of the chapter members to assist the Board of Directors with planning. Meetings are typically held each month by teleconference or in Berlin, CT at the Olympia Diner. Contact one of the Board of Directors to let us know if you are interested in participating so that we can provide specific details regarding times and locations of meetings.

We have a busy year planned for 2003. In an effort to continue with our improved communications, we have included in this newsletter our 2003 Operating Plan. Please join us next month during our general membership meeting on March 26, 2003 at the Diner to get an update on changes to the DEP's hazardous waste regulations. If you are unable to attend that meeting, stop by our booth during the 2003 CBIA EH&S Conference at the Aquaturf in Southington on April 29 and 30.

I am looking forward to a successful year and hope to see all of you during 2003.

Sincerely,

Paul Simonetta, CHMM
