The Lord’s PrayerIn Jesus’ time, some of the Jews thought that the longer you prayed the more likely it was that God would hear you. They also used long prayers as a way to show everyone else how religious they were. Jesus couldn’t be doing with this because he knew that the words they spoke were meaningless; he said that any prayer to God needed to be short, to the point and include a few major themes because God was more touched by what was in people’s hearts than empty words from their lips that meant nothing. During his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught people the following prayer : Some of the language in this prayer is out of date now so in 1977 some people changed the words to make it more modern and easier for modern people to understand its’ meaning. Our Father in heaven,We praise your name.Make us better people for heaven. Give us today the things we need.Forgive us our sins,Help us to forgive people who hurt us. Lead us not into temptation,?and from doing bad things.?You have all the power and glory, Now and for ever. AmenOur Father, who art in heaven,This is saying who our prayer is going to.? God is Our Father and people are His children.hallowed by thy Name,Hallowed is a big word that means "Holy".?? By saying, "hallowed be thy Name", it is saying that God's name is holy.thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. What God wants people to do, is what people should do so that earth will be as perfect as heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. This means that people trust God to give them what they need. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Trespass means to do a bad thing.? When people trespass against God, its called sinning.? And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. When we are tempted to do the wrong thing, it leads to anger and hate. That is evil.? AmenThis means that people are certain that God hears their prayers and will answer them.Today’s TaskIn the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus describes God as ‘Our Father’. He doesn’t say my father, but our father, because Jesus strongly believed, as do all Christians today, that we are all God’s children, and he cares about everyone like a parent would. With this in mind, today I want you to think about who cares for you in your life. This could include God and Jesus, your parents, siblings, friends, other family members or anyone else who you think cares for you. Create a mind map to show this and how these people care for you using the word because. Below is an example of this.Once you have done this, I want you to write a few sentences talking about the people who you care for, and how you show those people you care for them, and what more could you do to show that you care (be kind to your siblings, help your parents by tidying your room) ................
