There are 4 stages of a butterfly’s life cycle. Today we are going to learn about the 1st stage: The egg. Butterflies lay their eggs on leaves. The eggs are white and round. Let’s create butterfly eggs on a leaf. Trace your hand and color it in to create a leaf. Rip small piece of white paper and crumble them. Glue the white crumbled paper on the leaf to represent the butterfly’s eggs. When finished label your work: Leaf and Egg MATH- Review numbers 1-7Number of the week: 9Have your child count household items such as: beans, seeds, cereal, pasta, and toys.Request a number of items and have your child count and correspond with the items. Write out the numbers 1-9 and have your child choose a number, identify it, and count object or draw pictures to correspond with the number. LITERACY- Letter of the week: /O/ (review sound of the letter)Have the children point the letter out in books. Help your child find items around the house that start with that letter. Have the children cut out pictures from a magazine that start with that letter and create a collage. If printer is available use the link below to access worksheets. MEDIA- Read Aloud: I’m a Caterpillar by Jean Marzollo Music & Movement:The butterfly dance: your child to combine and transform leggos, blocks, or any other toys into something new. Use words such as: taller, shorter, bigger and smaller as they play. Dramatic play:How can we change the way we look? We can use a disguise. Have your child become a different family member for the day by using mom, dad, sister, or brother’s clothing. Can they speak like them? Can they walk like them? Can they laugh like them?TuesdayDate: 6/9/2020Yesterday we learned about the 1st stage of a butterfly: The egg. Ask your child: where do the butterflies lay their eggs?On leaves. Today we are going to learn about the 2nd stage. When the butterflies hatch from the egg they are called caterpillars. Please watch: caterpillars hatch they are very hungry. So they eat the leaves around them. Caterpillars need to eat a lot in order to go into the next stage of transformation. They crawl around to find more leaves to eat. Once they have had enough to eat they transform into a Chrysalis.Let’s create a caterpillar. Using cupcake liners have your child create a caterpillar. MEDIA- The Very Hungry Caterpillar play:Pretend to be a caterpillar. Hatch from an egg and crawl around.Math: How many letters are in your name? Count the letters and cut out circles to correspond to that number. Color in each circle and write one letter of your name on each one. Now let’s create a caterpillar with your name. Arrange your circles in order to spell out your name. Glue and draw the legs for your caterpillar. Blocks:We learned that caterpillars live on leaves. Using blocks, empty boxes or other household items build where you live. WednesdayDate: 6/10/2020Yesterday we learned that when the caterpillars hatch they are very hungry, so they eat a lot of leaves. Once the caterpillar is big enough it stops eating. They find a strong branch to hang from and form a protective layer around them called the cocoon. This is the 3rd stage of the cycle called the CHRYSALIS. During the chrysalis stage the caterpillar is called the pupa. The pupa goes through many CHANGES during this stage. Let’s watch how the caterpillar turns into a chrysalis. it’s your turn!Pretend to be a caterpillar transforming to your chrysalis stage. Stand up straight with your hands and feet. Ask a parent or sibling to wrap you tight with a blanket.Ask your child to describe how it feels. MATH- Practice counting, number recognition and 1:1 correspondence with numbers 1-9. MEDIA- How a Caterpillar becomes a butterfly Play:Using chalk, draw the 3 changes you learned about the butterfly so far. You can also practice writing your name and drawing simple shapes. Art: Create the Chrysalis stage Color the toilet paper roll. Draw a caterpillar on a piece of paper and cut it out the best you can. Then you can place your caterpillar inside the roll and pretend in is transforming. ThursdayDate: 6/11/2020 Today we are going to learn about the final stage of the cycle. After many days of the chrysalis stage, the pupa breaks out the shell and it is now a beautiful butterfly. Let’s watch how a chrysalis turns into a butterfly. Let’s make a butterfly! your child is working ask them:Remember the caterpillar? Did it have wings? Can you tell me the changes the caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly MATH- Sorting by color, shape and size Color: : : Sort your toys by size with the categories of small, medium and large.
