BOOKS TO READ ALOUD TO PRESCHOOL CHILDREN
Summer Book List for Students Entering Kindergarten
Fall 2009
June, 2009
Dear Parents,
I have prepared a list of read-alouds for you. I have included a number of recent award-winning choices as well as other titles suggested by reading experts. Reading for pleasure is a life-long habit we can nourish through daily summertime reading.
According to reading expert, Jim Trelease, the right read-aloud books can inspire children to become proficient readers who may choose to read those books on their own someday. Reading aloud entertains and reassures children, but it also arouses their curiosity, creates background knowledge, and builds their vocabulary. Reading research confirms that children who read the most, read the best and achieve the most. Have fun reading!
