BYU-Idaho Preschool Lesson Plan Lesson Plan #2Lab CHelping Around the HouseDate:Thursday - June 9, 2016Supervisor:HannahLead Teacher:TaraLynChildren and Learning/Development Goals: Aidyn: Learn how to be more social and make friends with other children. On the day that I teach we will have house set up for dramatic play. This dramatic play activity will have several things such as laundry, cooking and cleaning that could involve many different children. Mari and Bralynne would be children that would be great to play with Aidyn and include her. As teachers we can encourage her to play with others by involving her in the other child’s play, and making the dramatic play an environment for many children.Brooklyn: Brooklyn has a lot of fun playing with adults, however sometimes it is hard for her to interact with other children. She really enjoys being in the block area. We have noticed that she is more open to playing with others in that area. I am going to set up the wooden blocks with the wooden block people. House is an activity that can include several different children. Teachers will encourage her while she is in the block house activity to interact with other children. We will make sure that there is enough people and blocks so that sharing is less of an issue. (IELG D.3, G28) (Bralynne and Mari would be great for that).Trek: Learn how to play in bigger groups, cooperative play with other children and how to be less aggressive. As teachers, through our conversations with him we will encourage him to play and share. (IELG D.3, G28) He really enjoys to be in the block area during self-selected time. During my teaching day we will have it set up with several toys (in a house set up) so that multiple children could be there playing. Again, teachers will encourage interactive play through their conversations with him and other children. Tytan: Our goal for Tytan is for him to be able to express his feelings through words. Before preschool starts, in our pre-lab we will make sure to place a goal to talk with Tytan throughout the day and help him be able to express himself. We will try to do this more during self-selected activities. Josie: Josie is having a hard time opening up and being social with others. She really enjoys playing with baby dolls. We have also noticed that she gets into science activities. The baby doll washing sensory table will be a good place for her to open up and have a good time. Since sensory tables are a safe and comfortable place for children, this will help Josie feel like she can open up more with her peers.Tyler: We need to work on sharing with Tyler. First we need to make sure there are enough toys for several children to have some. Then we will help him when he is having a hard time to share with other children. All of the activities will be able to have several children there so that he can have opportunities to share with others in all of the activities. BYU-Idaho Preschool Lesson PlanLesson Plan #2Lab cHelping Around the HouseDate:Thursday, June 9, 2016Supervisor:HannahLead Teacher:TaraLyn JonesPreassessment and Findings:Kayla during dramatic play was using the spray bottles to wipe down the pizza’s. She turned to me and said, “I like to clean”Tyler and Mari were mixing baking soda and vinegar together. They were saying “mixing” over and over again.Vanessa loves to mix. She was mixing the paint and flour together. Mari and Bralynne will always carry around a baby doll.Mason was sweeping up the cheese during the pizza dramatic play.Trek saw the felt sprinkles on the ground and told me, “This is a mess; we need to sweep it up”Tyler- dumped water on himself and said, “I’m taking a shower!”Mari got paint all over her clothes. We were washing some of it off and I asked her if she washes her clothes. She said yes. I asked her where she washes her clothes and she didn’t know what to respond. I asked her if she washes it in the sink. She said no. I asked if she washed it in the dishwasher, Bralynne chimed in and said no. I asked if they wash it in the washing machine and dry it in the dryer and they both said yes. Kayla was sweeping during clean up time.During clean up time Bralynne said, “I don’t like to clean”Every time it is clean up time Tyler gets excited about it and reminds everyone that it is time to clean up.Margo is a great help when it comes to clean up time for the teachers. She always starts to put things away and she will follow directions on where to put things. They all love Dramatic play house. Many of the children love to carry baby dolls around.Tytan loves to play with water. He will spend several minutes washing his hands and playing in the water. One time he took a car over and was having so much fun washing the paint off the car.Kayla really likes to cook. When we had the playdough out for bread she really enjoyed making bread and baking it.Kayla was watching Hannah peel things and then use the knife to scrape things into the trash can. She got really excited and told Hannah that her mom does the same thing. So then she wanted to try and scrape things into the trash can. Hannah then was teaching her how to peel. Kayla was doing the motions really fast because that’s how her mom does it. Margo was really enjoying cooking things in dramatic play. She was proud of the muffins that she made out of playdough.Landon and Skyler where using the knifes to cut the playdough in dramatic play. Aidyn and Vanessa loved to put shaving cream on their arms and then wash it off in the water. They would do this over and over again. We were talking to Margo about putting a smock on and she told us that her mom wants her to have clean clothes so she has to wear a smock.I have noticed that all the children get really messy during the activities. Their parents are always disappointed in the messy clothes. I think that teaching them about cleaning clothes and wearing smocks would be great for them.Josie really likes picnics.Mason loves to read books in the classroom and at home. When we went for the home visit he showed me all of the books that he had at his house.Lots of the children know that mom cooks.Skyler likes to play in the big house. All of the children love their family. They always run to their parents when they come to pick them up. They know that their family is a safe place. All the children know that sweeping and wiping things down is a way to clean something up. They know that when there is a mess you clean it up. They know about some of the different house hold tools – brooms, rags, spray bottles.Ideas to be Emphasized:A broom, mop, vacuum, duster and rags are all tools we use to help around the house. Parent involvement- There are many different tools that are used to help around the house.A parent will come in and teach the children about tools that are used in the home. I will give the parent a few ideas that she could use such as teaching about vacuuming/ cleaning tools or laundry tools. But I will let the parent come up with something that they are comfortable with and excited about. The goal is to help the children become more familiar with the tools that are used in the home. It is also to help them get excited about helping around the home. Depends on the parent.2. Alternative: DustingI will teach the children about different cleaning tools. I will have different tools such as a vacuum, broom, mop, duster, and rags. We will talk about the different items and what they do. Then I will show them how we could use a sock to dust. Each child will be given a sock to put on their hand and they can go around the room and dust. Script:Today we have been learning about helping around the house. What do you do to help around the house?Cleaning is a way that we can help around the house. I have several different cleaning tools here that we use. This is a ______(Wait for the children to fill in the blank) Vacuum! A vacuum sucks up dirt and crumbs through the hose. This is a ________ Broom. We use it to sweep up messes. This is a mop. We use a mop to clean up water or spills and to make the floor shiny and clean. This is a rag. What do you do with rags? In the air there are small specks of dirt that your eye cannot see. Those specks land on the furniture and create a layer of dirt or dust that makes the furniture dirty. We use a rag or a duster to clean that dirt off. But sometimes we could even use a sock! (Demonstrate how to put the sock on your hand and dust with it.) Now let’s all try! (Hand out a sock to each child. Then Let them dust around the room.)Socks (IWP)Broom (K)Vacuum (K)Rags (K)Mop (K)SMALL FOCUS GROUPS 10:10-10:25 a.m. Transition We will sing the song, “I can Blow a bubble”. When their color is listed they will transition into their small focus groups. Your Activity Description & Objective MaterialsDiaper changingCreative arts table, Math table and snack tableDescription: First we will read the book titled, “What Daddies/Mommies do Best”. This book teaches the different things that parents do to help children. It will help the children understand a little bit more what parents do around the home. During the book I will have the teachers ask the children “Do your moms or Dad’s do this?” or “Do you guys think you will be able to do that one day?” After the book has been finished we will pull out a baby for each student. We will then go over how to put on a diaper correctly. We will talk about how we need to be gentle and nice to the baby. The teacher will have nice clean diaper underneath. Then place the legs down and put the top part of the diaper over the private parts and then take the sides and Velcro them to the front of the diaper.Paper and colored pencils will also be provided so that they can draw their family. Objective: The children can develop their literacy skills as the teacher reads the book.
