HASSRA Leeds Newsletter - August - 2

LEEDS NEWS

...and a very big warm welcome to Summer. Come in, come in, take your coat off and stay a while...you have been sorely missed. I hope all club members get an opportunity to savour the new taste of sunshine. And while you are at it why not enjoy the outside during the QH Summer Fete on 17 August and the HASSRA Leeds Drinks party on 24 August. Go on, you know you want to.

For our ticket offers ? although the Great Yorkshire Show was a bit of a washout we are still offering ?s off a trip to go and see `Oliver' at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in November. I'm certainly going to take advantage of this one as it is one of my favourites. See page 18 for more.

Trips wise the club doesn't have any offers this month, but HASSRA national and Y&H are offering discounted stays at Haven ? sounds a heaven-sent opportunity to take advantage of that scarce commodity ? a British summer ? to me. Stay away in the UK for as little as ?60 for what looks to be a 4 day break...but check out the details for yourself on page 15.

Our Craft Club always has lots going on. All sounds a bit like torture to me ? Needle Felting, Patchwork ? but Elizabeth assures me that it isn't, and I recently got to see some of the fantastic work the club had produced. So if crochet is your thing or you want to learn more about and learn to do knitting ? check out page 30!

St Wilfrid's Centre (Sheffield) are looking for all your unwanted or unused gardening equipment or seeds. They support other agencies to support the homeless, the vulnerable and those who are socially excluded, and they were part of a Community 10000 project that some staff from DWP recently took part in. If you can and want to help have a look at page 10.

I am going to highlight a new member benefit this month ? an organisation called `Up and Running' on Boar Lane. They are and do what they say on the tin and promise to get you `up and running' cheaper than elsewhere ? especially with that 10% off ? see page 5 for more.

Finally ? your BOM...well your Chair...will be / has been on telly. Where and what were they on I hear you ask. Well have a look at page 14 and be enlightened, but try not to be frightened by the dress code!

Finally, finally ? have a go at our `Countries Quiz' on page 22 ? promise of an Olympic themed quiz next month!

HASSRA Leeds Members Benefits

Commando Fit

The COMMANDO FIT military style outdoor exercise sessions are entering their second season in Temple Newsam, Leeds. Started in response to people wanting to get fit using the same course used in the `Race for Life', they have been getting fantastic results for their clients ever since. When you consider that you get a whole month of exercise classes for no more than ?28 they are one of the most cost effective ways to exercise and get results, quickly. You can also make use of the classes at Wakefield and Bradford also for the same cost for maximum flexibility and benefit.

The success of the clients is largely down to the instructors, all past or present serving military personnel, and they certainly understand how to motivate and support the clients through their one hour exercise session. So if you are not getting any fitter using your current methods or need that EXTRA push and motivation then get yourself down there and join some of your colleagues. ALL HASSRA members are welcome to a WEEKS FREE trial on top of their 10% DISCOUNT and there is no need to book, but remember to tell them where you heard about the sessions to claim your discount.

Further details can be found at mandofit.co.uk or by contacting 01226 382800.
