Our telephone support staff are available to answer your questions about our products and their use in the classroom. While we do not provide direct support to student users of our products, we are happy to provide help to professors and to the staffs of campus microcomputer labs. Please encourage students to direct their questions to you or to the lab staff.

If you have a technical problem, we recommend the following:

First, check the textbook that accompanies the software.

Many software products include on-line help. If the answer is not available in the printed materials, try using the Help feature of your software.

Feel free to call Course Technology's technical support lines during business hours (9 AM to 5 PM Eastern time), Monday through Friday. Be prepared to describe which product you're working with, the hardware you're using, and the problem you're having.

We also encourage you to call or write us and report on how you've been using our products in the classroom. We'd also be glad to share techniques that other instructors have used.

Note: For Course Technology products that include software, support is available only from Course Technology. Your software license does not entitle you to support from the original developer of the software. Preface

This Instructor’s Manual is designed to supplement the textbook “The Principles of Web Design.” It will assist in preparing to teach an introductory to intermediate course on Web design principles. Provided in this manual are detailed Lecture Notes, which will assist in creating class lectures by summarizing key points and concepts for each chapter of the text. Included within the Lecture Notes are Teaching Tips and Technical Tips gathered from the text, research, and classroom experiences. Also included in the detailed Lecture Notes are informal Quick Quizzes that will give a general feel as to whether the students comprehend the material.

For each chapter, there is a Chapter Overview that gives a brief summary of the material contained in that chapter, a Chapter Outline that provides direction to specific pages within this manual for major topics covered in each chapter, and a list of Chapter Objectives that cover the main concepts the students should learn from each chapter. If a chapter requires specific technology or raises technical questions that need clarification, there is a section devoted to Technical Notes in that particular chapter. As stated previously, there are detailed Lecture Notes contained within each chapter that discuss the main points and help to prepare class lectures. Included at the end of each chapter, after the Lecture Notes, are Discussion Topics, which can aid in creating open discussions on topics relating to the material being covered. Most chapters contain at least one Extra Project that can be used as either an in-class lab or homework to supplement class lectures and provide students with a “hands-on” learning experience. There are Team/Group Activities in some chapters, which require that the class be split into teams to work together. Team/Group Activities can also be assigned as homework. At the end of each chapter there is a list of Key Terms and their definitions, for easy reference.

The Instructor’s Manual is targeted at helping to create useful and relevant class lectures that relate to the material being covered. It is important to create a hands-on environment for the students to learn in. Web design is a topic that requires a lot of first-hand experience and teamwork. Group collaboration and participation are extremely important.

There are three Sample Syllabi included in this manual to aid in creating a course calendar and timeline for the class. Please feel free to modify any of the syllabi contained within this manual to meet your own specific classroom needs and teaching style.

All of the chapters included within this Instructor’s Manual contain a combination of the following features:

➢ Chapter Overview

➢ Chapter Outline

➢ Chapter Objectives

➢ Technical Notes

➢ Detailed Lecture Notes
