COURSE DESCRIPTION This course provides the student with in-depth knowledge of health care systems and organizational structure. Emphasis is on resource management and healthcare financing principles. The focus is on complex health care issues that impact the integration of health care services. .

COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Relate systems and organizational theory to the design, delivery, and evaluation of health care delivery and outcomes.

2. Utilize business and economic principles to determine the impact of health care financial policies on the delivery of health care.

3. Analyze the utilization of human, environmental, and material resources necessary for quality client care.

4. Describe support structures, processes and methods used in the management of the

care environment.

5. Evaluate regulatory and legislative processes and outcomes as they affect health

care, and make recommendations for change.

ATTENDANCE

Students are expected to be present for all classes, other learning experiences and examinations. Students who have extraordinary circumstances preventing attendance should explain these circumstances to the course instructor prior to the scheduled class as soon as possible. Instructors will make an effort to accommodate reasonable requests. A grade penalty may be assigned for late assignments or make-up exams.

Papers will be returned within 2 weeks.

MAKE UP POLICY

Work is considered late when the assignment box is closed and the assignment must be emailed to the faculty member. There is a 10% per day grade penalty for assignments submitted after the assignment box closes. There is a 50% per day grade penalty for discussion postings/ responses submitted after the designated submission date and time.
