TEXT: The text for this course is: Principles of Microeconomics Gregory Mankiw. The Aplia software used to do the class homework comes with an online version of the textbook.

EXAMS: There will be two midterm exams each worth 100 points and a comprehensive final worth 200 points. All exams will have both multiple choice and problems. Students should ask to be excused from an exam only for illness or other emergencies of similar magnitude. To be excused from an exam the student must notify the professor as soon as possible, but no latter than the day of the exam. No make-up midterms will be given under any circumstances. The grades of students who are excused from tests will be based on the tests taken and final exam. (midterm 100 points, final 200 points) You cannot pass this class without taking the final exam. It will be given only at the time scheduled , which is May 17 from 10:15-12:15. I will not reschedule the final to accommodate your work schedule, travel plans or for any reason other than a medical emergency.

HOMEWORK: There will be weekly homework assigned using the Aplia software. ( Information about Aplia including how to purchase is given at end of syllabus.) The course outline in Aplia gives the due date for the homework. Homework will usually be due Tuesday mornings at 11 am, but not always. It is the student's responsibility to check the outline. The homework is worth 30 points. ( I will take your percentage correct after dropping the three lowest assignments and multiply by 30)

Aplia assignments: You can change your answers as many times as you like before the problems are submitted. After the assignment is submitted Aplia displays the correct answers and explanations for graded problems. If you are not satisfied with your grade, you can do a similar problem again and your score will be averaged. The graded problem sets have a firm due date. Once the due date passes, Aplia records your grade and you can no longer change your answers or complete the assignment. In other words, Aplia assignments must be done by the due date. There will be not late work accepted regardless of circumstances. However, I will drop the 2 lowest scores. The software does not understand excuses. Do your assignments early to keep last minute emergencies from getting in your way.

You should check the Aplia website regularly. Any assignments and class announcements will be on it.

Class Participation: I will track your participation through your answers to questions using your clickers. On Thursdays I will give a 5 point quiz using the clickers. You must have your clicker to take the quiz. I will not excuse student absences for any reason, but I will drop the lowest 2 grades.

GRADES: Grades in the class will be based on exam, class participation and homework scores only. No extra credit work will be given after the class has ended. No adjustments will be made for personal circumstances. The following scale will be used:

A 85-100%

A - 84

B 70-82

C+ 68

C 55-67
