California Department of Education September 2017
2017–18 CAASPP Matrix One Worksheet
This worksheet can be used by school site staff to track the assignment and delivery of the accessibility resources listed on Matrix One () for all students who will benefit from their use on the following California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) assessments:
• Smarter Balanced English Language Arts (ELA)
• Smarter Balanced Mathematics (Math)
• California Science Test (CAST field test)
• Standards-based Test in Spanish for Reading language arts (STS)
Universal tools are available to all students on the basis of student preference and selection. Designated supports are available to all students when determined for use by an educator or team of educators (with parent/guardian and student input, as appropriate), and accommodations are available to students as documented through an individualized education program (IEP) or Section 504 plan. For detailed recommendations on the use of both embedded (delivered through the online test delivery system) and non-embedded (provided locally at school site) accessibility resources, please refer to the Smarter Balanced Usability, Accessibility and Accommodations Guidelines ().
The selected accessibility resources should be those that the student uses regularly in the classroom. The use of the CAASPP Online Practice and Training Tests () is highly recommended to help students discover which resources work best for them and to familiarize students with available resources. Demonstration video tutorials () for the embedded accessibility resources are available on the CAASPP Portal (). Students should receive ample practice with any resource they will use on the CAASPP tests.
NOTE: California Alternate Assessments test examiner administers the test one-on-one and can administer the test in the language of instruction; therefore, the following embedded supports are not available for the California Alternate Assessments: Braille, closed captioning, text-to-speech, American Sign Language videos, translation glossaries, and Spanish stacked translation and test directions.
