Installing Older Printer Drivers
The following steps show how to install the printer drivers for discontinued Fargo printers. The figures on this page are from Windows XP. Depending on the version of windows you are using and how it is configured; the steps may vary in appearance etc.
1. Down load the driver for your printer from Fargo's support web site at . If your printer is not listed, choose "Other".
1A. From the “What type of Product” list, choose “Printer”.

1B. From the second drop down list, Scroll to the bottom of the list and choose “Other”.

2. If your printer was not listed in step 1 above, locate you printer on this screen. If your printer is not listed on either list, a driver is no longer available for your printer.

3. Select the driver for your printer from the "For What Product" list.

4. determine the correct printer driver for your operating system. The Wnidows 2000/NT printer driver can also be installed on the Windows XP operating system. This demonstration is for installing the printer driver for the Fargo 4250 printer on Windows XP operating system. Right click on the printer driver for your operating system.

5. From the pop-up menu choose "Save Target As"

6. Save the file in a temporary directory, (or any directory of your choosing). After the file has finished downloading, double click on the file to unzip it.

7. Enter the path to the directory into which you wish to unzip the file.

8. When the files have been unzipped, click OK.

9. After the files have been unzipped there should be 8 new files in the directory.

10. click the start button on the lower left corner of the screen.

11. On the pop-up screen select "Settings" and then "Printers and Faxes". If you do not have a choice for printers, click on "Control Panel" and then select "Printers and Faxes".

12. Under "Printer Tasks" select "Add Printer".

13. Click on "Next"

14. Make sure that "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer" is NOT checked and then click "Next"

15. Select the correct printer port. (Generally LPT1 unless your PC has more than one parallel port) and then click "Next"

16. Click on "Have Disk".

17. Enter the path to the directory that contains the previously unzipped driver files and then click "OK".

18. Highlight the driver you wish to install and then click on "Next"

19. Assign a name to the printer (you may change the name if you wish), indicate whether or not you want to set the printer as the default printer and then click "Next"

20. Indicate if you wish to share this printer and then click "Next".

21. Indicate whether or not you want to print a test page. If you print a test page, it will print the Windows Logo and part of a word (The test page is intended for a full sheet of paper). then click the "Next" button.

22. Click on the "Next Button".

23. Click on "Continue Anyway".

24. After the printer has finished copying the necessary files your printer driver should be listed in the "Printers & Faxes" folder.

25. Connect your printer to the PC's parallel port. At this point you should be ready
