|Role Overview: |

|The role of Research Engineering staff in CSIRO is to conduct innovative research for the benefit of Australia's economy, society and/or |

|environment. |

|The Sustainable Process Engineering Group is part of the Resources, Community and Environment Program in the Mineral Resources Business Unit. |

|The Group combines expertise in process evaluation, process engineering, and equipment design and manufacture to develop and scale-up new |

|process technologies for the minerals, materials and energy industries. |

|The primary responsibility of the Senior Process Engineer will be to develop and lead research programs to develop and scale-up new process |

|technologies, by involving staff from a range of scientific disciplines. The Senior Process Engineer will deliver projects to clients and |

|manage client relationships. |

|The Senior Process Engineer will have an in-depth knowledge of chemical engineering and the ability to integrate this with other disciplines, |

|e.g. metallurgy, chemistry, materials and mathematics. The Senior Process Engineer will have, or will acquire, a breadth and depth of |

|scientific interests, an awareness of their potential applications, and the capacity to vary their scientific interests and skills to suit |

|research and industry priorities. |

|Duties and Key Result Areas: |

|Develop and lead research programs to develop and scale-up new process technologies, particular for the minerals, materials and energy |

|industries, involving multidisciplinary project teams (e.g. engineers, metallurgists, chemists, materials scientists, and modellers). |

|Deliver projects to industrial clients, including HSE, financial management, project reporting and close liaison with client staff. |

|Recognise and exploit opportunities for innovation in process development, generate new theoretical perspectives, and pursue new ideas and |

|approaches that create new concepts and opportunities. |

|Develop process flow sheets, and undertake mass and energy balances, for the purposes of scale-up and techno-economic analysis. |

|Communicate effectively and respectfully in the interests of good business practice, collaboration and enhancement of CSIRO’s reputation. |

|Work effectively as an integral member or leader of a multi-disciplinary, often regionally dispersed research team. |

|Work collaboratively and honestly with internal and external colleagues, clients and partners to develop and progress challenging but |

|realistic research plans for a range of research projects. |

|Selection Criteria: |

|Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all pre-requisite and essential criteria can be appointed |

|Pre-Requisites: |

|A PhD and/or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline area, such as chemical engineering. |

|Significant process development experience, preferably in minerals, materials and/or energy, and involving industrial clients. |

|generate and pursue novel ideas and solutions to scientific research problems. |

|Demonstrated ability to identify critical stakeholders and influence them via verbal and written communication, to gain support for sometimes |

|contentious proposals / ideas. |

|Demonstrated ability to work independently, assess the risk and opportunity of identified strategies, options and actions, and overcome |

|challenges and setbacks in achieving goals. |

|Demonstrated ability to set up and maintain effective and efficient multidisciplinary teams, and manage performance and resources. |

|Demonstrated ability to cooperate with other teams and industry colleagues to achieve organisational objectives. |

|Demonstrated ability to adapt to and manage the increasing rate of organisational change by adjusting strategies, goals and priorities. |
