The 2018 Medical Psychiatry Nursing Conference is designed to provide information and discussion of current trends in the care of patients with dual medical and psychiatric diagnosis.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this program learner should be able to:

Identify candidates for buprenorphine therapy to treat opioid use disorder and summarize how to refer a patient to the UIHC Medicated-Assisted Therapy (MAT) Clinic.

Describe the Shelter House's permanent supportive housing program model and summarize current resources supported, including Fairweather Lodge, Cross Park Place, and the Housing First model.

List three complementary and alternative therapies to heal and/ or manage emotional pain.

Review and discuss the diagnostic criteria, symptoms, features and treatment options for patients impacted by catatonia.

Review etiology, pathophysiology, genetic background, manifestation and family dynamics impacted by Huntington's disease.

Define effective communication strategies when dealing with individuals experiencing a crisis.

Determine the role a jail alternatives program plays with individuals who have behavioral health issues and are involved in the criminal justice system.

Define human trafficking and summarize how it is occurring locally; recognize the signs of human trafficking to support proper response; identify the strategies of the grooming process.

Credit

Nursing Credits: 6.7 contact hours will be granted by UI Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Provider #34). Participants must attend the entire program to receive full credit.

Registration

$64; $79 if postmarked after 10/15/2018 (or received after the deadline with no postmark). The registration fee covers the cost of record keeping expenses, program materials, faculty expenses, CE recording, breaks and noon luncheon.

Refund: Full (minus $10 cancellation fee) if notification received on or before 10/15/2018.
