INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN

General Statement of Duties

This position’s hours are split between Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Social Services (DSS). Approximately 20 hours per week will be spent at each location. The position performs skilled technical work providing computer and network support to users and assisting in the operation and maintenance of network equipment and software programs; does related work as required. Work is performed under minimal supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Tasks

❖ Providing technical support to users; installing and repairing hardware; installing software on computers and printers; maintaining files; troubleshooting hardware and software problems.

❖ Provides technical support Sheriff’s Department and DSS; installs and repairs PC’s, terminals and printers.

❖ Maintains network and ensures system processes are executed and function properly

❖ Maintains parts and equipment inventory records; requests quotes for necessary items; processes purchase orders for required items.

❖ Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and reports troubleshooting problems dealing with phone systems.

❖ Troubleshoots and repairs MDT’s and printers including software and hardware.

❖ Configures computer workstations for County employees.

❖ Maintains and upgrades network hardware as needed.

❖ Troubleshoots upgrades and repairs all proprietary software; requests support as needed.

❖ Plans for future use, growth and improvements for network functionality.

❖ Troubleshoots and repairs connectivity issues to the network including wired, wireless and VPN connections.

❖ Performs network security including anti-virus and anti-spam applications; updates definition; performs daily scans.

Additional Job Duties

❖ Assists on special projects as assigned;

❖ Performs other duties as assigned.

KSA’s and Minimum Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

❖ Thorough knowledge of the operation, uses and capabilities of electronic data processing equipment;

❖ Thorough knowledge of hardware and software procedures and techniques;

❖ General knowledge of the operation of personal computers;

❖ Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions;

❖ Ability to analyze software programs and make minor adjustments;

❖ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Minimum Requirements and Education

❖ Associate’s degree in Information Technology or related field with majority course work in information technology classes.

❖ Considerable experience installing hardware, software and networking computers.

❖ Customer service / help desk experience is preferred.

❖ Successful pre-employment drug screen.

❖ Successful criminal background check.

Physical Activities and Requirements

Physical Demands

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, driving, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines. Employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

Special Requirements

Consideration given to applicants holding network related certifications.
