Español I

Señora Hester

2010-2011

Bienvenidos a la clase de español I. I am very excited about our upcoming year and I hope you are too. We are going to be working hard and having fun.

Text/Daily Materials

You will need to bring the following to class EACH day:

1. your textbook

2. a separate Spanish folder

3. your workbook

4. a writing utensil

5. paper

We will be using the text Realidades 1, Prentice Hall. A workbook that follows your textbook will be provided to you free of charge, so don’t forget to bring it with you to class each day.

Homework/Make-up/Attendance

1. I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE WORK OF ANY KIND! All or none, no half credit.

If you are absent from class, it is YOUR responsibility to call one or both of your study buddies to get any assignments that you missed and have them ready for class when you return. (DO NOT ASK ME FOR WHAT YOU MISSED, unless you need a worksheet etc.) By the same token, you must also be ready to take any quiz or exam that the class is taking upon your return. See me if you miss more than one day of class.

Make-up day is after school every Wednesday (ONLY) at 3:05 p.m. (in room 760). If you have any test or quizzes to make up, it must be made up within 1 week of your absence, or it will be recorded as a permanent 0 in my gradebook. i.e if you miss a quiz Thursday you should expect to make it up the following Wednesday at 3:05.

Grading

You will be graded with a weighted computer program as follows;

Final Exam written=15%

Final Exam oral=5%

Exams/quizzes=20%

Projects=10%

Oral Proficiency Assessment=10 % (i.e. speaking assignments, speeches)

Homework=10% (given on a daily basis)

Written assessments=10% (i.e. paragraphs, sentences)

Class participation=15% (includes having your materials, answering questions when called on, speaking in Spanish and being on task)

The grading scale is the traditional:

90-100%=A

80-89%=B

70-79%=C

60-69%=D

Below 60%=TROUBLE

** Please note, I will not recommend that you go on to second semester or to the next level if you do not have a C in the class.
