DESIGN / PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Lumber products specified shall meet or exceeds all building code requirements for framing lumber.

Lamco LFL is an alternative to sawn lumber for floor, roof and wall structural members. Structural applications include use as beams, columns, headers, joists, rafters, chords and webs of trusses, I-joist flanges, rim boards and wall studs.

Where fire resistance is required Lamco LFL with a minimum thickness of 17/16 inch may be used as an equivalent alternative to 1-1/2 inch thick solid-sawn lumber in accordance with the IBC, IRC and NBC

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Verify that the Design Loads and Wind Pressure are indicated on the Drawings.

Design Loads and Wind Pressure shall be as indicated on the Drawings.

Design of Lamco LFL is governed by the applicable code and the provisions for structural composite lumber (SCL) in NDS or CAN/CSA O86.

Cuts, notches and holes in structural members shall comply with the applicable building code for sawn lumber and this TER. For applications outside of the scope of the applicable code, consult the manufacturer's installation instructions.

Uniformly loaded beams may have holes bored in the member, provided such holes are entirely in the center 1/3 of the member in both the length and depth dimensions.

Buildings constructed in accordance with IBC Section 2308, Conventional Light-frame Construction, and IRC Chapter 5, 6 and 8, and subject to the limitations therein, the following conditions apply:

Holes bored in joists, rafters and ceiling joists shall not be within 2 inches (51 mm) of the top or bottom of the joist, and the diameter of any such hole shall not exceed 1/3 the depth of the joist.

Holes bored into studs shall not exceed 40% of the stud width, and the edge of the boring shall be no closer than 5/8 inch from the edge of the stud.

Holes shall not be located in the same section of the stud as a cut or notch.

Notches in the top or bottom of joists, rafters and ceiling joists shall not exceed 1/6 the depth and shall not be located in the middle 1/3 of the span.

Notches on the ends of joists, rafters and ceiling joists shall not exceed 1/4 the joist depth.

In load bearing walls, Lamco LFL is permitted to be cut or notched to a depth not exceeding 25% of its width.

In non-load bearing walls, Lamco LFL is permitted to be cut or notched to a depth not exceeding 40% of its width.

Notches on cantilevered portions of rafters (e.g., notches at exterior bearing walls) are permitted, provided the dimension of the remaining portion of the rafter is not less than 3-1/2 inches and the length of the cantilever does not exceed 24 inches.

Taper cuts at the ends of ceiling joists shall not exceed 1/4 the depth of the joist measured at the inside of the bearing.

Unless otherwise noted, adjustment of the design stresses for duration of load shall be in accordance with the applicable code.

Design provisions for wood construction noted in IBC Section 2301.2 and IRC Section R301.1.3 apply to Lamco LFL for ASD, unless otherwise noted.

Grades shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's reference design values of Lampco LFL for MSR Grade 1.6E, MSR Grade 1.7E, MSR Grade 1.9E and MSR Grade 2.1E.

Beam and Header:

Stronger: makes a great beam or header, often eliminating a ply.

Because of its stability, can be used as a single member up to 16 inches.

Our 1-7/16 inch width means you use less material than 1-3/4 inch LVL or LSL to do the same job.

Advanced Framing Technique using LAMCO LFL as a structural rimboard in multi-stage buildings, allows builders to eliminate window headers completely in under stories and increase energy efficiency creating an ultimate wall opening detail.

Rafters and Roof Framing:

Frame with Ridge Board and Collar-Tie.

Engineered for 24 inches o.c optimized design spacing.

Every piece is "Straight and True": no more "wavy" roof.

Save time not having to "Crown or Valley" your pieces.

Save money knowing you'll use every piece.

Use conventional framing methods to cut your bevels and compound miter profiles.

For hangers and fasteners, use inexpensive and easy to find framing hardware.

Use our deeper depths to achieve insulating requirements of new building codes.

No bevel plates or stiffeners required because you can frame like dimensional lumber.

Finger Jointed Studs SPS-3: After each production, raw materials that did not meet the quality requirements are cut to shorter lengths, defects are removed, the wood is reclassified (NLGA standards) and those short pieces are finger jointed into Lamco studs.

Higher strength raw material: contains a high volume of MSR lumber.

More joints per piece: always 3 or more.

Finger joints: 7/8 inch structural male/ female joints.
