Let me know how you got on with the book and any activities. Please try and keep up your reading by practicing the above reading strategies with different books and novels. ** Note: Fry’s lists available in the learning support section of the school website for those children who had been working on these previously. *** It may be coming to the stage where some of you are in need of some fresh reading material. If so I suggest reading J.K Rowling’s newest instalment ‘The Ickabog’. It is aimed at children from the ages 7 -9 but can also be read to any age or ability. I am a massive Harry Potter fan so will be reading this myself. JK Rowling is releasing this book for free online for all children to read during this pandemic. She will add chapters each day until July. Here is the link to the book. The Alligator (Duration 7.5 mins)Snappsy the alligator is having a normal day when a pesky narrator steps in to spice up the story. Is Snappsy reading a book ... or is he making CRAFTY plans? Is Snappsy on his way to the grocery store ... or is he PROWLING the forest for defenceless birds and fuzzy bunnies? Is Snappsy innocently shopping for a party ...or is he OBSESSED with snack foods that start with the letter P? What’s the truth?QuestionsSnappsy likes food that starts with the letter ‘p’. Can you remember any of the food that he bought starting with the letter ‘p’? Snappsy gets annoyed at ‘the narrator’. What is a narrator? Was it a good idea for Snappsy to have a party? Why?Writing Handwriting book – continue Report writing: A Country of the world. While in school this week I noticed that 2nd class have done lots of work about the country Australia. I thought that it might be a good idea for you to write a report about any country in the world. You could pick Australia or you could pick somewhere you know about or somewhere that you’d like to learn about.Make a word web to organise your ideas. Research some facts about your chosen country. You could write about the climate, the food, the sports or the music. Illustrations are always welcome. The report doesn’t need to be long. Just a short outline of your chosen country. The National Geographic is a good place to start exploring. I have attached some new ‘would you rather cards’. These cards ask questions about which scenarios you would rather? The idea is to debate each question with someone in the family. We have some more eggs currently in an incubator that will hope hatch into baby chicks in the next 2 weeks. I thought that this would be a good opportunity for the children to learn about the life cycle of a chicken. Please watch this link which explains about the life cycle of a chicken complete the cut and stick activity belowThis is a picture of our incubator. It does the job that is normally done by the hen sitting on the egg. I will keep you all updated as the 21 days of incubation come to an end.Religion Grow in love programme (free access for all parents). trial@growinlove.ie password: growinloveSecond class -> theme 10 -> lesson 1. ‘As I have Loved You’. Visit and read through the e book aimed at 1st and 2nd class.(This ebook discusses baths, barrels, paddling pools, farms, ice, rivers, swimming pools and beaches)2.
