LITERACY

Recognising letters and understanding how letters make words as well as recognizing sounds, developing writing skills and learning about books and storytelling are all valuable early literacy experiences.

EXPERIENCE

Exploring letters

You can use the printed letters in a variety of ways. 1. Place each set of letters in two separate containers

or small bag. Select a random letter from your bag, label the letter and encourage your child to find the matching letter. 2. Place one set of letters out on a table in alphabetical order. Encourage your child to select a letter from their bag and match the letter.

LEARNING

Resources

How is this supporting my child's learning? What do I need?

Supporting children's early language development involves playful ways introduce children to letters and sounds. The intention is that children begin to recognise that letters carry meaning through a play based experience.

Print out the letters of the alphabet and make two copies. Cut out each letter individually or use some old magazines or newspapers and cut out letters to use for this game.
