MARCH 20, 2019

JRBA Due Date for HOPE for Appalachia Boxes for Spring Distribution

Rev. Woody Moore will be serving as a Team Leader for the spring distribution and his team is responsible for 4 schools this year. Mt. Zion is sponsoring Page

Elementary School. Woody is hopeful that JRBA can supply the boxes for one of the schools as well. Hope for Appalachia will be reaching out to several new

schools this year so many additional boxes will be needed! Last year JRBA supplied 873 boxes, as well as

many additional items and monetary contributions. We are hopeful that we can exceed that number of

boxes in 2019 for this worthy cause!

A list of items to be included in each box has been sent to JRBA churches. Please check with your newsletter contact or your pastor if you need a copy of the

2019 list. It is very important to include ALL items requested in each box. Do not include bar soap, washcloths, food products, or toy guns. Body Wash

should be packed in a Zip Loc bag. If you wish to send washcloths or feminine hygiene products, please package those items separately to be given to the

school’s resource officer for private distribution.

JRBA participants on the Distribution team, April 15 – 20, 2019, are Rev. Woody Moore, Lois Arthur, and Brenda McAllister (Mt. Zion), Rev. Roger Woody and his

wife, Darlene (Chestnut Grove), Wayne and Linda Gough (Mulberry Grove), and Terry Towler (First Baptist Dillwyn). If you are interested in joining a

Distribution Team, please contact Rev. Woody Moore as soon as possible. (804-382-7954) Your prayers and continued support for this mission effort are greatly

appreciated.

ADDITIONAL WAY TO HELP WITH THIS EFFORT: Previously, Rev. Moore had requested that churches think about providing some meals for the HOPE Team. That need has

been taken care of, but he would like cookies, brownies, etc., baked and packaged in individual zip loc bags for the team to hand out to the teachers and staff

in the schools they visit. If you can assist with this, please let Rev. Moore know. You can call him at 804-382-7954 or email him at n2preaching@.

Check with him for details and a due date for this as the items will need to be fresh when the team departs on April 15.

JRBA 2019 Bland Mission Trip

May 19 – 25, 2019

JRBA is looking for 12 to 15 adult volunteers to go to Bland Ministry Center again this year. This is a

mission trip that is DO-ABLE for those who don’t wish to go long distances, who do not have professional

skills, or cannot make a large financial commitment. To go to Bland and bless others, you need to have

a compassionate heart, be willing to work hard, and be flexible day-to-day. You may be sorting,

folding, and hanging clothes, cleaning, restocking shelves, packaging groceries for distribution, doing

yardwork, or any number of jobs around the Ministry Center. If we have folks to go with carpentry

skills, there may be construction jobs to help with…it all depends on WHO God is calling to go this

year. Pray about this opportunity to serve others and to serve God! If you have questions or want to

sign up, let Phyllis or Gwynn Tyler know by April 1! (Call 434-983-7385 or 434-969-4378.)

JRBA REACHES OUT>>>

CHURCH OUTREACH

Antioch (Scottsville) served 195 people and gave out 79 food boxes at their January “5 Loaves, 2 Fish Ministry Meal”. Deacon Dwayne Phillips and Malcolm Warfield arrived home safely from their mission trip to Uganda. Pastor Dave Vogt, Malcolm Warfield, Michael Browning, and Justin Holdgriewe have just returned from a successful mission trip to India, where souls were saved!

On January 23, some of the Cedar church family were priviledged to visit Heritage Hall Nursing Home for a time of singing and fellowship with the residents there.

Mt. Tabor is pleased to announce “The Food Pantry”. Their mission is to provide non-perishable food items to those in need in their community. They want their community to understand they care about them and that Jesus loves them. If you have questions or know of somone in need, contact Lora Snoddy at 434-956-5204 or email her at lora.snoddy@.

Mulberry Grove’s major focus for January and February were the Hope for Appalachia boxes. Church members also donated items for the weekend backpack food ministry at Buckingham Primary School. The emphasis for March will be the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. Planning will also begin for donations for the Bland County Mission trip. Inidividuals continue to volunteer at the bi-monthly food distribution at the Crystal Cathedral, and the outreach ministry is ongoing.

The congregation at Sharon has been working on Boxes of Hope for Appalachia, and growing a special contribution for Rise Against Hunger. Rose of Sharon supplied food items for the school backpack ministry, and continues providing meals and visits to those who are sick or homebound.

Tar Wallet held a spaghetti dinner on February 23, to benefit Josh Rayfield, a Cumberland deputy.

On January 27, Cedar had a baby and child dedication for Pierce Martin Ward and Scarlett Belle Ward, the son and daughter of Dilan and Victoria Ward.

Sharon celebrated Men’s Day on February 17, recognizing the sustained dedication of the men of Sharon to their church, their community, and beyond. Nathaniel Fraticelli delivered the worship message; special music was provided by the “Men’s Choir” and a trio comprised of Mikey Fraticelli, Nathaniel Fraticelli, and Rev. Perry Clore.

Tar Wallet congratulates Andrew McHenry on a blue ribbon for Basic Skills, won at the Regional Special Olympics in Danville. Way to go, Andrew!

Condolences are expressed to the family of Arleen Vance, deacon and long-time member of Tar Wallet.

She passed away on Decebmer 4, 2018, and leaves a tremendous void in the lives of her family and friends.

JRBA LEARNS AND GROWS>>>

On February 3, Antioch (Scottsville) had a “Love My Church” fellowship and meal. During the fellowship, folks could see the areas available to serve so they could get plugged into the church and its ministries. It was a great event and really helped those who didn’t know where they fit in to see what is available and matches their spiritural gifts.

Mulberry Grove recently started a Bible Study for those over 50. They met in January, with 20 in attendance, and again in February, with 17 in attendance. The food and fellowship has been great and they are delving into the study of Ezra, led by Rev. Willard Spurlock. They welcome others to join them on March 22, for a pot luck dinner and continued study in Ezra, Chapters 3 & 4. A new study is starting on March 4, for those under age 50. They will be using the book Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shirer.

6

OTHER EVENTS.>>>

On Sunday, February 10, the Youth of Cedar, along with the members of the Youth Committee, treated the church family to a delicious Valentines Day Dinner consisting of spaghetti, complete with all the trimmings. The young people did a wonderful job of serving the meal. Afterwards, there was a time of fun and games which resulted in a lot of laughter and fellowship. Cedar thanks the committee of devoted leaders that are always working with the youth in the church to keep them busy and invovled in church.

The Youth Group of Jones Chapel hosted a “Sweetheart Dinner/Movie Night” and served a delicious meal of spaghetti, salad, and various desserts. They decorated each table beautifully and were very attentive in serving and in cleaning up. Donations went to missions trips. The Youth Group also went out to lunch together after the worship service on February 17, for a “Birthday Bash”, celebrating several recent birthdays.

FROM YOUR MODERATOR>>>

I wanted to take a moment to thank and encourage each church for what they are doing in their respective areas for God’s glory. Thank you! The effort and love you put into the people that God has placed in your lives will have eternal rewards. How exciting it is that we serve a God who partners with us. Keep up the good work!

There has been some talk about planning another JRBA get together. In the past we have gotten together (volleyball, kickball, picnic, Hillcats baseball game, etc.) to encourage fellowship and get to know each other better. I am going to try to put something together for our churches to do together in the near future (May – June). If you have any input, please let me know.

In Christ’s Love,

Michael
