Required Remedial Courses in Mathematics (as of Fall 2016)
Required Remedial Courses in Mathematics (as of Fall 2016) Depending on your scores on the CUNY Assessment Test in mathematics, or Compass Exam (pass score for Arithmetic/M1 is 45 or higher; for Algebra/M2 is 40 or higher across all CUNY colleges), you may be required to take remedial courses. This document tells you what courses are required for whom, at which college. All remedial courses are 0-credit courses unless otherwise specified below. How to look at the tables:
1. Find your college; 2. Find your status for Compass Exam (M1 and M2); 3. Find your major ("non-math intensive" majors do not require a college-level College Algebra
course to complete the degrees; "math intensive" majors do require College Algebra). For example, if you go to BMCC as a Forensic Science major (math intensive), and passed Arithmetic (M1) but failed Algebra (M2) on Compass Exam, you will need to take and pass two math remedial courses, MAT51 and MAT56. As you see, if you do not pass the CUNY Assessment Test in mathematics, it typically takes at least 1 to 3 semesters to complete remediation before you start taking college-level math course(s). It's very important to prepare for the CUNY Assessment Test. For more information, go to: .
