Your employer will either ask for these before or after you start working for them. For this reason, it’s important to have them ready. The following is a list of documents that may be needed in order to secure employment, as well as the details on how to obtain them. Personal Information and IdentificationSin Number A SIN number is a 9 digit number that every person working in Canada must provide their employer. The sin number also allows you to access services and receive benefits from government programs. Service Canada requires all individuals to apply in person for their SIN number. To apply for your SIN number, gather the required identification documents and take them to your nearest Service Canada office. There is no fee for obtaining a SIN number. Depending on the type of transcript and speed at which you need it, the fees vary from $7- $15.
