A: One. This is the minimum requirement for all students at CJH.

However, there are some really great titles on the list, so we always encourage students to read more!

A: Nope. Students are only responsible for reading a novel this

summer. In the fall, they will demonstrate understanding of the text through activities in their Language Arts classes.

A: Students/families are responsible for obtaining their own copy of

summer reading books. Students are not required to purchase the novel. Books can be purchased online through Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Half Priced Books, or Scholastic. You can also check the book out from Cary Public Library. Currently, the Cary Area Public Library is offering a ton of titles through their digital library. Please visit for information about applying for a library card and checking out digital material.

A: Reading must be completed by the first day of school.
