6th grade MathematicsMs.TerrellCourse Syllabus 2018-2019Course Description and ObjectivesThe aim of the 6th grade mathematics course is to reinforce basic mathematical concepts and introduce skills that are essential for all students. Students will be also introduced to procedures, processes, and vocabulary that students will need in order to demonstrate mastery in various are of the curriculum. Homework can be expected on a regular basis and is due the following day in class, unless otherwise noted. If a student is absent, the student is responsible for the missed assignment. Students who have an excused absence will be allowed five days to turn in the missed assignment. Course Assessment PlanStudents will receive a variety of assignments designed to enhance their learning. Math journals will be completed daily in class. Homework will be given Monday-Thursday; unless otherwise noted in their agenda. If a student is absent, the student is responsible for the missed assignment. Students who have an excused absence will be allowed five days to turn in the missed assignment. Evaluation (Schoolwide Grading Policy)Summative Assessments 30% (Unit & Chapter Test, Projects, Tasks) Formative Assessments 60% (Quizzes, Class work, Graded Writing Assignments, Group Work, etc.)Homework/Other 10% (assigned at teacher’s discretion)Classroom Procedures & ExpectationsThe overarching expectation in this class is RESPECT: respect for yourself, respect for other students, respect for the teacher/or any individual in authority, and respect for any guests that may enter our class. Although this encompasses all other expectations, I will outline several others for the sake of clarity.1.Always Try YOUR BEST!!! Students are encouraged to ask questions. I will not settle for anything but your best!! Have the “I can do it” attitude! Stick To It and Don’t Give Up!2.Remain SEATED and PREPARED at all times. 3.Bring ALL materials to class DAILY. 4.All written assignment must be completed in pencil.5.Students are expected to use their agendas daily to record assignments and assessments.6.Every student is responsible for helping to maintain a clean, safe learning environment. Your area must remain CLEAN at all times. The floor should be clear of trash, paper, and personal belongings. 7.Adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations outlined in the student handbook, and Tutt Middle School’s Norms. Appropriate behavior is expected at all times. 8.Extra help is available and encouraged.
