PCA

Welcome From the High Country!

The Rocky Mountain Region and Alpine Mountain Region welcome you to our High Country here in beautiful Keystone Colorado, host city for the 54th Annual Porsche Parade. Colorado has a long history of Parades and this will not disappoint you.

Our team has been hard at work putting together what we think will be an exciting and memorable event for all Porsche enthusiasts, their families and our sponsors.

We have been fortunate to be able to accept ALL entrants into this Parade! This collection of documents contains all the information you will need prior to arriving in Keystone. At check-in to take place in the Keystone Conference Center, you will receive your name badges, car numbers, banquet tickets, Parade binder and goodie bag.

Check-in hours: Monday, June 29th 8 am – 5 pm - Keystone Conference Center

After Monday, entrant packets will be available only, from 9AM – 11AM. Tuesday and Wednesday, June 3th and July 1st in the Registration Office – Shavano

If you need to change your Concours classification you must check-in before 11 am on Monday, per the PCRs. Otherwise, check-in any time on Monday.

Each entrant, co-entrant and family member must go through check-in and sign the insurance waiver in order to receive their name badge. Badges will not be given to a family member.

Junior Participation Program (JPP)

PCA requires two forms (one completed by the JPP and one completed by the parents) for JPP member’s to enter competitive events. Both parents/legal guardians must sign the parental consent form and both of the forms must list all events to be entered with the corresponding dates for these events. JPP members must bring the two completed forms to Parade. We will also have the forms at Parade Charlotte; however, both parents/legal guardians must sign the forms. These forms are available on in the member services library.

We look forward to seeing you in Keystone!

Safe Travels,

Kathleen

From Denver

Allow approximately 90 minutes travel time. Exit the airport on Pena Boulevard to I-70 West. Stay on I-70 West for approximately 80 miles. Go through the almost two-mile long Eisenhower tunnel. Exit the tunnel and go approximately 6 miles to exit 205 (Silverthorne-Dillon). Turn left, going under I-70 overpass, onto Highway 6 (now heading east). Go approximately 7 miles until you come to Keystone.

Trailers: If you plan on bringing a car in a trailer to Parade and are coming from the direction of Denver going west, we suggest that you not take it over Loveland Pass road, but stay on I-70 to the Dillon/Silverthorne exit. Upon arrival in Keystone, take your trailer directly to the Montezuma Lot and use the shuttle bus to the Conference Center for Check-in. There is no room for trailers around the Conference Center on Sunday and Monday, June 28th and 29th. With one exception, the Outdoor Concours Prep trailers will be allowed to park in the Upper Tenderfoot Lot until Tuesday, June 30th only.

The Condo Front Desk (Check-In for all condos, except those in River Run)

Once in Keystone, turn right at the first traffic light (West Keystone Road), make another immediate right. The Condo Front Desk is straight ahead. The front desk agent will provide directions to your condo building/parking along with a resort map. Front Desk hours are 7am-11pm. Guests arriving outside these hours should check-in at the Keystone Lodge (see below). Condo Front Desk: Please park all trailers in the Montezuma Lot only. Course Walk

The scheduled time for the walk is Wednesday, July 1st from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. This is for all entrants. DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY AS THERE WILL NOT BE ANOTHER ONE. There are over 325 autocross entries this year, therefore the course will be in continuous use the entire day of the autocross event.

What to Wear

In July, we generally see daytime temperatures in the upper 80’s. Sunscreen, hat/visor and water are strongly suggested.

Full length pants, long sleeved shirts, socks and full shoes are recommended for all drivers. Bare feet, sandals and open-toed shoes are not permitted. Please consult the PCR’s for any clothing requirements are specific to your class.

Hydration

Remember how important it is to make sure your body is hydrated when driving in an autocross. We will have bottled water available for autocross participants and parade volunteers.

This is more important at high altitudes (9,300 feet).

The Course

The course and parking lot at Keystone provides a unique space to stage an autocross, allowing us to design an exciting and fun track. The track will feature a variety of corner shapes and some medium straights. Stock cars should expect to use 2nd or 3rd gear when running the course. The track will be marked with both cones and chalk to make course visibility easy. When you arrive at the lot, you will be directed to Pre-Grid (Montezuma Lot - see map), where you will prepare your car for the event. Only participant cars will be allowed in Pre-Grid. When your class is called to run, you will be guided by the autocross staff through Pre-Grid and then led to Start-Grid (Tenderfoot Lots - see map) by a pace ca

Spectator Parking & Grandstands

Spectator parking will not be available at the Autocross area. Parking is available at the conference center. Buses will bring spectators to the autocross. Signage and volunteers will direct spectators to the designated viewing areas.

Parking Tow Rigs/Trailers/Support Vehicles

Space for parking for these vehicles will be located at a portion of the Montezuma lots (see map) and will be marked with signage. Volunteers will be available to assist you. These areas allow support vehicles to leave at any time and can be used to establish a “base camp” for your Porsche, allowing you to unload all non-essential items prior to proceeding to the Pre-Grid (also in the Montezuma lot). After your run group has been released from impound, you will return to the Pre-Grid (Montezuma lot) area.

Drivers Meeting

Once you are checked-in to your Run Group and enter Pre-Grid you will then participate in your final Top Tech and Drivers Meeting. All drivers must attend. If you do not attend you will be disqualified. Once you have completed your Drivers meeting, you will be instructed to proceed, with your Group, behind a PACE Car to Start-Grid for your Three (3) timed runs. You will need to take only those items needed during your timed runs to the Start-Grid such as helmets, air pressure gauge, etc.

Event Time

Participant parking will open at 6:00am. Morning run groups should be on site according to the times given to you when you check in; first hot laps will begin promptly at 8:00am. Afternoon run groups should be on site according to the times given to you at check-in.

Arrival Time

Due to the large number of participants, we will need to hold to our time schedule. We will call the first class/group to grid at approximately 6:30am, and start the first car on track promptly at 8:00am. A tentative schedule will be posted on the Keystone Parade web site prior to Parade. Please consult the schedule for the arrival time for your class. A final schedule will be provided when you arrive at the Parade. If you are not present when your class/group is called to grid you will not be allowed to run. Sorry, no exceptions.

Tentative Run Group Schedule

Morning Session (First car out at 8am)- Classes S01 through S12.

Afternoon Session (First car out at 1pm)- Classes P, I and M.

First Car Out

First car out on the course is 8:00am.

Classification

The PCR’s define your class in great detail. You have already declared your class. It is strongly suggested any changes be made at Parade Check-In. However any class change must be done 24hours prior to the event start as required by the PCR’s.

Pre-Grid

All Porsches must be “course ready” prior to entering Pre-Grid. Pre-Grid will be closed prior to the driver’s meeting. Any Porsche not in Pre-Grid prior to the driver’s meeting will not be allowed to compete.

Safety Inspection

Your car must have a safety inspection by the designated Parade officials prior to the event, and you must supply proof. This inspection will include each driver’s helmet, which must be Snell approved and not older than Snell 2000. See the PCR’s for additional information. There will be a final, abbreviated safety check done at Pre-Grid prior to start.

Required Prior to Grid

The following items must be presented before the driver can proceed to the Pre-Grid:

• A completed inspection form

• Parade furnished, legible numbers affixed where they can be seen by the autocross officials.

• Approved helmet that the driver will be using for the autocross, and clothing suitable and safe for the event. See PCR’s.

[pic]

Flags

Three flags will be used in the autocross event.

• Green flag - Used at the start

• Red flag - Used when a course related incident makes it necessary to stop on the course. If a red flag is waved while you are on course, check your mirrors to make sure it is safe to stop, and pull to the side of the track and stop. Wait for instructions from a course worker.

• Checkered flag - Used to indicate the end of the timed run.

Penalties

If one or more cones are hit and either moved out of its box, or tipped over, a two second penalty will be assessed for each cone. Any cone in the start area (after the green flag line), finish area (this may be after the timing clocks) will count towards the penalty. The cone penalty does not apply to the staging grids.

Start-Grid

You will be directed to follow the designated pace car to the Start-Grid by class/group. Once in the Start-Grid, do not leave your Porsche, as your timed run will start shortly. Failure to be ready when called to the grid will result in your disqualification for the run.

The Start

A green flag will be used to indicate that you have permission to start/enter the course. Timing lights will not start until the light beam is interrupted by your vehicle.

Runs

Each driver will get three (3) timed runs. The first run is NOT a warm-up run. All runs will be timed. Regardless of the size of the run group, no Porsche will be allowed on course without a minimum five (5) minute cool down between laps.

The Finish

The finish line will be located at the end of the course and marked by double orange cones. Slow down significantly (5 mph) after passing through the finish lights. Return to the starting grid for your next run. The hot grid will be marked with numbers. The tentative lane layout is as follows:

• Lanes #1, #2 and #3 indicate which timed run you are on.

• Lane #4 will be for those who qualify for reruns.

Reruns

A rerun will be allowed if a driver did not get a fair run. Reruns will not be granted for mechanical failure. If you are stopped during a run for a condition you did not create, you will get a rerun. If you observe a condition that interferes with your run while on course, such as a corner worker, another car in your way, or a cone (not a directional cone) on its side or outside of its position due to a previous competitor, stop immediately and point out the problem to the corner worker. Do not complete your run. Follow the course worker’s instructions, and then follow the course back to staging at a reduced speed. You will be given instructions for an official rerun when you return to staging. Failure to stop for a condition that would entitle you to a rerun means that you have forfeited your chance of a rerun. Stopping for a perceived condition that did not in fact exist will not entitle you to a rerun.

Reruns must be separated by five (5) minutes.

Results

Each driver will be given a timing slip upon exiting the course. Times will be posted as soon as possible in impound and near the grid area.

Multiple Driver Porsches

Multiple driver Porsches will be assigned their own specific lanes in the Start-Grid area. The drivers will alternate laps, and be guided through the grid in such a way that all drivers in a class will be kept in lap synchronization as much as possible. This will take your co-operation so please pay attention to the autocross staff’s instructions.

Impound

Upon exiting the course after your last official timed run, you will be directed to the impound area where you will need to open your Porsche’s compartments for inspection. Only personal items such as helmet, keys, and gloves may be removed at this time. Failure to report to the impound area immediately after your last run, or stay the required time, will result in disqualification. Impound affords you the opportunity to inspect your competitor’s Porsche, and to verify that the official results are correct. The protest committee will be located in the impound area.

Awards

All awards including major awards such as top time of day ladies and men’s for all classes will be given out at the evening Autocross Gold Rush Buffet. Those participants unable to attend the buffet they can pick up their award in Torrey’s Peak Hallway (Conference Center - next to the Shavano Foyer) after the event on Saturday, July 4th from 9am to 10am.

Driver Departure After Impound

Drivers may exit the impound parking area upon release from impound and determination of class standings. You are then free to leave the impound area and the track and return to the Pre-Grid area where you are required to remove your possessions so the other competitors who have not yet run have adequate room.

You’re welcome to return as a spectator, however, you need to park your car at the Montezuma Lot or at your room and take a bus back to the track as there is no spectator parking available for the autocross event.

Showroom Stock Note

The Showroom Stock autocross classes continue to be a very popular option for entrants in the Parade autocross. These classes have seen some entrants exceeding the limits of the category with illegal modifications. The intent of the Showroom Stock category is to provide classes for automobiles as normally delivered and specified for use in the United States and Canada. Factory options as normally delivered for a specific model year are permitted. However, anything beyond this, especially anything that could be reasonably perceived as being performance affecting is not allowed in the Showroom Stock category. This includes R-rated tires even if they were on the automobile as delivered. Please review the PCR’s for further information about properly classifying your automobile.

It is the intent of the PCR Committee to keep these classes as originally intended. Please classify your automobile properly so that you don’t fall victim to a protest and possible disqualification from the event. If you have exceeded the allowances for Showroom Stock, please classify your automobile in the correct Production or higher category/class.

Autocross Safety Inspection

This year, for the first time, only the cars entered in the autocross will be required to complete the Safety Inspection.

The hours and locations for Safety Inspection are as follows:

Parade Competition Rules and have your car/gear compliant

when presenting it for inspection.

Porsche Parade 2009 TSD Rally

General Instructions

Introduction

The Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) Rally is a driving event where competitors are provided a set of instructions to travel a designated route, at directed speeds, on public roads. There will be several legs making up the route, with each leg scored independently. The instructions and speeds directed are to be followed as precisely as possible. By doing so, the rallyist will traverse the course over a set time. The rallyists will be scored on how closely their time compares to the calculated perfect time for traversing each leg of the course. Points are assigned (see Part VII) for the amount of time, either early or late, that the rallyist deviates from the calculated perfect time. The points for each leg, plus any penalty points assigned (see Part VII), are totaled to derive the final score. The lowest score wins.

The 2009 Porsche Parade TSD Rally will be governed by the following sets of rules and instructions, in their order of precedence: 1) the 2009 Parade Competition Rules (PCRs), 2) these General Instructions, 3) any Supplemental General Instructions issued at Check-In or with your Route Instruction, 4) any Special or Emergency Instructions issued at a control or along the rally route and 5) the Route Instructions issued at the start of the rally.

Start Procedure

Each rally team will be assigned a start time at Check-In. You may request a start time within a 30-minute block of time beginning at 8:00 am. Your actual starting time within that block will be randomly assigned. You must specify the entry number of the driver, navigator and vehicle in order to receive an out time. Changes may be made following initial Check-In by special arrangement (i.e., see the Rally Master).

The start of the rally will be in Vail, Colorado, a scenic 37-mile (59.2 km) drive from Keystone. Specific directions to the start will be given at Check-In. Allow approximately 45 minutes to reach the starting area, and plan on arriving about 30 minutes prior to your assigned start time. There will be coffee and pastries available for purchase at the starting area and multiple opportunities along the way to stop for breakfast.

Once in the starting area, you may pick up your Route Instructions and scoring envelope 20 minutes prior to your assigned out time. Then proceed, in your vehicle, to an inspection station, which will be prominently identified, where a worker will check your name badges and assure that your equipment is appropriate to your class. Such inspection is not a defense against a subsequent protest of your class. You may then begin the rally at any time.

The Route

All rally roads are paved, through, public roads. Roads marked “Dead End,” “No Outlet,” “Private Drive” or similar phrases, or that visibly end in a cul-de-sac, parking lot, barricade, or unpaved surface do not exist unless a Route Instruction clearly states otherwise. Park and school parking areas may be used at controls or as directed in the Route Instructions.

At each intersection you encounter, execute the active Route Instruction if it is applicable. If the active instruction is not applicable, execute the first applicable of the “Main Road Rules” which determines a unique route. Note that this means that Route Instructions may be “redundant” in that they may cause you to go in the same direction the applicable main road rule would direct. The main road rules are cited below in the order of priority:

CENTERLINE: Follow the main road as indicated by a painted centerline.

STRAIGHT AS POSSIBLE: Go as straight as possible, but do not use this rule to leave a limited access highway or Roundabout.

Route Instructions

The Route Instructions, combined with the PCRs and these General Instructions as supplemented prior to the event, will guide your route and time through the rally. Execute each instruction at the first opportunity, unless stated otherwise, and in ascending numerical order. Each must be completely executed before the next becomes active, unless the instruction clearly states otherwise. Material in parenthesis is meant to be helpful but is not essential to the proper execution of the instruction.

Route Instructions may reference signs, objects or places along the rally route. When an instruction includes words, letters, numbers or symbols within quotation marks, you must see those words, letters, numbers or symbols on a sign along the rally route in the normal sequence as they were meant to be read. When less than an entire sign is quoted, a prominent portion will be quoted and no words, letters or numbers between or among those quoted will be left out. All quoted signs will be on the right of the rally route unless otherwise indicated (see Supplemental Glossary) and will be readable from your direction of approach (i.e. there will be no requirement to look backward to execute a Route Instruction).

When an instruction references an object or place along the rally route, such objects or places must be identified by a sign, which may be anywhere, or must be defined in the PCRs or these General Instructions. Such references will be in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS without quotation marks. Terms specifically defined in the PCRs or these General Instructions must be used only as defined.

On signs quoted or those identifying landmarks, spelling is accurate but case and punctuation may be ignored. Symbols (such as arrows) may be ignored unless they are cited in the instruction.

If on the day of the rally a sign is missing or there is an unexpected change in the route, the lead car may post an EMERGENCY SIGN. Such a sign will be marked “PCA” and if it contains an arrow, go in the direction indicated by the arrow without executing an instruction. If the sign includes an instruction number, execute that instruction at the first opportunity and delete any unexecuted lower numbered instructions. An example of an Emergency Sign will be posted at Check-In.

Speeds cited in CAST instructions (see PCRs) are in miles per hour and are average speeds over the distance they are in effect. It will not be necessary to violate any speed limits or other traffic laws to achieve a perfect score at any control. Distances on the Odo Check Leg and speeds for CASTs will be given in kilometers in parentheses in a column to the right of the instructions.

The maximum distance between the execution points of consecutive Route Instructions is less than 5.0 miles (8.0 km) unless an instruction clearly states otherwise.

An example of Route Instructions similar to those used in the rally follows:

|53. |SL25 CAST 23 |(36.8) |

|54. |"Loveland Pass" CAST 38 |(60.8) |

|55. |CAST 43 0.50 mile (.80 km) after STOP |(68.8) |

|56. |Left toward SOUTH PARK | |

Supplemental Glossary:

• Odometer Check Leg: A group of instructions at the beginning of the rally that will allow you to compare your odometer readings with that of the car that made the official measurement on which the timing calculations are based. If your mileage is higher or lower than that given for the check leg, you should adjust the CAST speeds in the instructions by a comparable percentage. For example, if the official distance of the Odo Leg is 8.57 miles (or kilometers) and it registered 9.43 on your odometer, you are higher by a factor of 1.10 (9.34/8.57). You should then adjust all CAST speeds by that factor. CAST 30 in the instructions would in effect be CAST 33 for your car.

• Roundabout The modern version of a traffic circle. Continue counter-clockwise around the circle until directed to leave it. It will always be clear what route to take, and no traps are based on this definition or the layout of a specific Roundabout.

• SL An official black on white Speed Limit sign posting a speed on the rally route, which the rallyist is, obliged to obey. May be specifically referenced to the posted speed as SL50, SL45, etc.

• SA Sign Anywhere (left, right or overhead)

• SOL Sign On Left

• Turn Toward Turn (may also specify Left or Right) in the direction indicated by an arrow on a sign referencing an object or place cited in an instruction, or turn in the direction of a sign or landmark cited in an instruction.

Control Procedures

• All controls (or checkpoints) are manned, open controls on the right side of the rally route. Each marks the end of one leg and the beginning of the next. The time you are early or late at a control will determine your penalty; you cannot make up or lose that time on the next leg. Checkpoint procedures are outlined below:’

• Pass the timing line, marked by “√.” at rally speed. Do not stop at the timing line. Your time will be marked as your front tire crosses the timing line. Stay in line; do not pass other cars prior to completing Step 2.

• Pull over in a safe location a short distance beyond the timing table and await a runner who will bring you a timing slip. Stay in your car. If you have a Delay Allowance claim, give it to the runner before accepting your timing slip.

• Verify that the car number on the timing slip is indeed your car and that you agree with the assigned in-time. Resolve timing discrepancies immediately with the captain. You may want to copy the times and make score calculations on the scorecard provided for your record, since the timing slips will be turned in at the end of the rally. You will also receive a leg critique slip containing the official leg time, leg mileage, out speed, next instruction, and in some cases the specified restart point and/or special instructions.

After receiving your slips from the runner, immediately pull ahead to the restart marker, noted by ”PCA Restart”, “Out Marker”, an orange pylon, or a sign or landmark specified on the critique slip. Your assigned out time is from the restart marker; the distance between the timing line and the restart point is not used in the timing calculations. Do not block the restart sign or allow the restart area to become congested.

Scoring and Penalties

You will be penalized one point per hundredth of a minute for arriving early or late at a control, up to a maximum of 500 points (5 minutes). You will be penalized 500 points for missing a control or entering it after it has closed, as well as 500 points at the next control reached. Controls will remain open at least 20 minutes after the scheduled arrival of the last car.

• You may be penalized, at the discretion of the checkpoint captain, 200 points for 1) unsafe conduct (e.g. parking so as to block other traffic, or excessive speed) at a checkpoint or 2) disrupting the operations of a checkpoint (e.g. arguing about your score or trying to solicit information about the conduct of the rally).

• You may be penalized, at the discretion of the checkpoint captain, 100 points for “creeping” or unauthorized stopping or making an uninstructed U-turn within sight of a control.

• There is no penalty for entering a control from the wrong direction, but you will only be timed when entering it properly.

• Any car receiving a ticket for a traffic violation during the rally is subject to disqualification.

The timing slips and your copy of any Delay Allowance slips must be turned in at the end of the rally in the envelope provided. The rally scoring committee will calculate your scores for you, supplemented if necessary by the checkpoint logs. You are not required to calculate your own scores; however, if you do not transfer your times onto the scorecard provided, you will have to accept the calculation of your score. If you do not turn in your scoring envelope, you will be considered a “DNF” and will not be scored.

Delay Allowance

You may submit a Delay Allowance claim for any reason. Blank Delay Allowance forms will be provided in your scoring envelope, and one must be filled out and one copy turned in at any control for which you are claiming a delay. The “no-fault” use of Delay Allowances is new this year and is a safety measure. Please use them as an alternative to speeding to make up time after an off-course excursion or other unforeseen delay. Please request delay time in whole minutes; use no more than one slip at any one control; and claim no more than 20 minutes in total over the event, as use of a Delay Allowance will not protect you from a closed control (they cannot know in advance you are coming late).

Questions

Questions regarding these General Instructions may be submitted prior to June 24, 2009 via email to Paraderally2009@ or by snail mail to Lee Sammons, 5025 East Sixth Avenue, Denver, CO 80220. Responses will be posted on the Parade web site and at hospitality at the Parade. Please word your questions so they can be answered “yes,” “no,” or “does not occur.” Note that a response of “yes” does not necessarily mean that it will occur; only that that is a correct interpretation of the General Instructions.

Supplemental General Instructions

VERSION II

I. Directions to the Rally Start in Vail

As stated in the General Instructions, the start of the rally will be in Vail, Colorado, a scenic 38-mile (60.8 km) drive from Keystone. Allow approximately 50 minutes to reach the starting area, and plan on arriving about 30 minutes prior to your assigned start time. The instructions to the start are:

1. From the Keystone Conference Center, turn right to go West on US 6

2. After 6.5 miles, go under I-70 and then turn Left to get on I-70 West

3. After 29 miles take Exit 176 (the main Vail exit)

4. Go around the Roundabout; pass under I-70; then go half way around the next Roundabout and exit on Vail Rd.

5. After 0.3 mile go Straight at “Restricted Traffic Ahead” (it’s not restricted for us)

6. Immediately Bear Right at Checkpoint Charlie.

7. You are now in the heart of Vail Village, an area open to us by special invitation by the Town of Vail. Please drive very slowly for the next 0.3 mile and enjoy the view.

8. After that 0.3 mile, turn Left at STOP on Vail Valley Dr

9. After 0.1 mile turn Left at “No Stop Required”

10. After 0.5 mile go half way around the Roundabout and exit toward LionsHead

11. After 0.4 mile turn Left toward the LionsHead parking garage

12. Enter the parking area through any of the gates (no ticket required)

13. Proceed to the far end of the structure and turn left (the only way you can go) and go to the last parking bay. Or, in inclement weather we may use the second level. Follow signs as appropriate.

14. Park in a legitimate parking space.

You may pick up your Route Instructions and Scoring Envelope at the check-in table 20 minutes before your scheduled out time. The official time is available nearby. Restrooms are located on the lower level. The breakfast goodies are being sold by and to support the Vail Valley Charitable Fund. Please show your support of their efforts.

II. Changes and Additions to the General Instructions

Change to I. Introduction: In second paragraph, delete reference to “in order of precedence.” There are no conflicts among the cited documents.

Add to IV. Route Instructions: Interstate Highways may be identified in the Route Instructions without regard to the words “Interstate” or “Colorado’ on the standard route markers.

Change to VII. Delay Allowances: Please claim delay allowances (if any) in whole minutes plus 0.25 minutes (15 seconds) as will be preprinted on the Delay Allowance slips.

Official Measurement: The rally was measured in a 2002 Toyota 4Runner with a Zeron 880 rally computer driven off the front left wheel. The temperature was in the 50s and the roads were wet in spots due to scattered showers.

Road Construction: Colorado has a short construction season; and while we have coordinated with state and local officials, we cannot guarantee that you will not encounter delays or stretches of broken pavement. If so, please accept our apologies and use the Delay Allowance procedure to account for any time lost.
