In this worksheet, we will practice rounding whole numbers to the nearest thousand, ten thousand, and hundred thousand. First, let us review place value.

In the number 1,234,567: 1: millions' place 2: hundred thousands' place 3: ten thousands' place 4: thousands' place 5: hundreds' place 6: tens' place 7: ones' place

The general rule for rounding is that if the next number is 5 or above to round up one; but if it is less than 5, the number stays the same. Then, all the numbers after that change to zeroes.

For example: 234, 862 rounded to the nearest thousand is 235, 000
