Create Virtual Hard Drive
**** Create \VHD directory off of root
**** From windows 7 Ent. DVD; copy Install.wim to C: \VHD and Ximage.exe to c:\windows\system 32
**** This document assumes a Windows 7 Enterprise/Ultimate SINGLE partition basic installation
1) Logon as admin
2) Run command prompt; use “Run as administrator”
3) Start diskpart
4) create vdisk file=c:\vhd\win7.vhd type=fixed maximum=40000 type=fixed
* ***this takes several minutes
5) select vdisk file= c:\vhd\win7.vhd
6) attach vdisk
7) list disk
8) select new 40GB disk
9) active
10) format fs=ntfs quick
11) assign
12) imagex /info c:\vhd\install.wim ( looking for index #)
13) imagex /apply c:\vhd\install.wim /check 1 g:\ (final letter will vary depending on what was assigned )
14) diskpart
15) select vdisk file=c:\vhd\win7.vhd
16) detach vdisk
17) exit
18) reboot
19) choose vhd from boot menu
20) activate OS
21) Patch OS
22) Install application:
Office 2007
McAfee
Adobe reader
Flash player
Shockwave

23) Update applications
24) Set password for local admin accounts
25) Reboot as needed, selecting VHD as boot option
26) Logon as admin
27) Launch applications and config as needed
28) Reboot as needed, selecting VHD as boot option
29)**** Make a backup copy of the VHD file
30) Sysprep VHD file
Difference Disk setup
****make a copy of the win7.vhd file
****write protect the file win7-copy.vhd
1) Logon as admin
2) Command prompt “Run as administrator”
3) Start diskpart
4) create vdisk file= c:\vhd\win7dif.vhd parent= c:\vhd\ win7-copy.vhd
Boot Order
1) Logon as admin
2) Command prompt “Run as administrator”
3) bcdedit.exe /copy {default} /d "windows 7 (differential image)" (makes entry in boot menu and displays GUID)
4) bcdedit.exe /set {guid} device vhd=[C:]\vhd\win7dif.vhd
5) bcdedit.exe /set { guid } osdevice vhd=[C:]\vhd\win7dif.vhd
6) bcdedit.exe /set { guid } detecthal on
7) bcdedit.exe /set { guid } description “Difference Disk Boot”
8) bcdedit.exe /default { guid }
9) bcdedit /v ( to check entries)
