UVA

Academics

Became aware of UVA as a result of being stationed in Wash. D.C. while in the army and competing against UVA in basketball

Advance standing was granted, friendliness and sincerity of Prof. Morse to assist me in finishing schooling.

Mechanical Engineering

Had previous credits that transferred to UVA

Some of the most enjoyable times in my life. Coats and Ties, tradition, most of the faculty seemed genuinely interested in helping to educate students. Life was simpler and less complex in the early 60's -- UVA still maintained the friendly small college atmosphere.

Prof. Morse -- Engineering Economics -- one of the best courses to prepare students for real life. Prof. Longley -- was able to take the English Lit courses and make them somewhat palatable. Prof. Gaston Fournes -- practical down to earth info.

Jean -- Everyone knew (knows) Jean Holliday -- she really ran the E School.

Prepared me for the real world. Although we had numerous classes in theory (thermodynamics, etc.) the emphasis was on well-rounded learning suck that the individual could learn to think clearly.

Residential Life

Lawn. Seemed to be the thing to do. After several successful and enjoyable years at the Univ. I felt it was a fitting thing to do before leaving.

no

Peaceful yet full of opportunity to meet people. The thought of living in the spirit of the Univ. in the original "Academic Village." The feeling of achieving goals that permitted the agility to get selected to be on the Lawn.

Did not dislike any part of living on the Lawn

Most Vivid Memory

The good, fun times that allowed us to enjoy and endure the academic rigors. Prof Zuk teaching to us in Russian to add a little levity to his dynamics course, Prof B. Mayo describing the change of Bedford Forrest, the "Fried Fruit Pies" for breakfast at the E School sold by the albino, the mechanical shop classes and Freddy Morse's surveying class.

No drugs, no nasty stuff -- just good, clean, friendly drunks, no racial tensions. The meeting, dating and marriage to my wife.
