First Quarter
1. It has been a joy getting to know ______ this quarter. She is a kind and caring student who is always willing to participate and share her wonderful ideas. The enthusiasm she shows for school, friends, and life in general energizes our whole room. ______ puts effort into her assignments and tries her best throughout the day. In reading, ______ has been working on becoming an active reader in order to improve her comprehension. She is making connections, asking questions, and determining important information as she reads. One focus area for ______ for the next quarter is to really focus on reading the words on the page. She often substitutes her own words while reading and that can sometime alter the meaning she is getting. In writing, ______ does a wonderful job of adding her own personality into her work. Keep up the wonderful things you are doing ______. You are a third grader who truly shines!
2. It has been a pleasure getting to know and work with ______ this quarter. She arrives at school each day with a smile, eager to start learning. You can guarantee she will be the first one in her seat each morning, starting her work before all the others. ______ puts forth the same amount of great effort during the rest of her day, which is evident in the quality of her work. ______ is an active listener and enjoys participating in small and large group discussions. She is able to readily discuss books with me and her classmates. She is often the first one to figure out a plot twist or where a story is going based on author clues. Her reading skills and application of appropriate reading strategies are good and continue to improve. Keep up all the great things you are doing ______! You are a wonderful student and a third grader who truly shines!
3. It has been an absolute joy getting to know ______ this quarter. She is a kind and caring student who is always willing to participate and share her wonderful ideas. 4. I have truly enjoyed getting to know ______ this quarter. I am so impressed with the effort she puts forth and the perseverance she shows everyday in her work. She is using her reading strategies well, and her fluency and intonation at the third grade level are wonderful. Her kind and friendly demeanor make her a role model for classmates. One goal for next quarter is for ______ to continue choosing books that are at her “just right” reading level which will bolster comprehension even more. 5. It has been a pleasure getting to know ______ this quarter. He is an enthusiastic learner who arrives at school with a smile each day and embraces new challenges with a positive attitude. ______ has many wonderful ideas to share with the class, and especially enjoys taking part in small group discussions. He is respectful of others and is always willing to help a classmate. ______ language arts skills continue to blossom and I look forward to reading more of his writing pieces next quarter. Goals for next quarter include slowing down to complete written work with quality and continuing to choose appropriate books that will allow him to grow as a reader. 6. It has been a pleasure getting to know ______ this quarter. ______ is putting forth good effort in language arts and math. He is beginning to read for longer periods of time without distraction and has taken great pride in his work during writing. We continue to work on staying focused on class work and completing one task before moving to the next. ______ is making good progress in math, working on strengthening skills and using different math strategies. A goal for next quarter will be to continue boosting reading level through small group and individual instruction. Keep up all the wonderful things you are doing ______. He impresses me daily with the amount of effort he puts forth throughout the day, and his sense of humor keeps a smile on my face. ______ approaches each subject area with an enthusiasm and determination that is unparalleled in our classroom. His use of reading strategies has improved consistently; reading comprehension of both narrative and informative text is very good. 8. It has been a pleasure getting to know ______ this quarter. He is an inquisitive student who approaches both academics and social situations with enthusiasm. Carter is an important member of class discussions, sharing information, ideas and his life experiences frequently. He is able to use higher level thinking strategies, along with background knowledge to help him read at higher levels. Goals for next quarter include continued use of self monitoring strategies to ensure ______ is engaged in appropriate school behavior, and making sure work is completed with quality in mind. 9. It has been a pleasure getting to know ______ this quarter. He is an inquisitive student who enjoys learning any type of new information. He brings with him a depth of background knowledge from his real life experiences, and I particularly enjoy his great sense of humor. ______ sets very high expectations for himself and others and we continue to work through the emotions that come with those expectations on a daily basis. As the year progresses I can already see improvement in this area, with ______ beginning to accept at times when things are difficult or not quite going the way he thinks they should. ______ is always an active participant in class discussions, sharing information, thoughts and ideas. Goals for next quarter include increasing ______ use of comprehension strategies while he reads and continued use of self-monitoring strategies to help ______ manage his feelings. 10. It has truly been a pleasure getting to know ______ this quarter. He has done a good job over the past ten weeks of getting acclimated to a new school, and he has made new friends along the way. ______ is a very enthusiastic learner, tackling new challenges eagerly; however he seems to get discouraged easily when he feels the content is difficult for him. ______ is an active and important participant in class discussions. He has a great knowledge of the world that he shares with us. ______ spoken vocabulary is excellent and I have seen such improvement in his writing over the past several weeks. Goals for the second quarter include increasing ______ confidence in his abilities to overcome challenges as well as taking personal responsibility for his actions. Academically, we are working on expanding upon written work with more details, building fluency in his reading and staying on task for longer periods of time. 11. It has been a pleasure getting to know ______ this quarter. ______ is a quiet thinker—and an inquisitive learner who frequently asks questions. He comes to school with a great deal of background knowledge about the world around him which helps him make connections to the things we do on a daily basis. ______ is doing very nicely with math computation. He has memorized all of his basic facts. I have seen nice progress in his writing since school began as well. In reading, ______ has very strong word recognition skills but often finds it challenging to make sense out of the words he is able to read when they are in the context of a fictional story. ______ receives a great deal of support throughout the day on following directions, requests and routines. We continue to work on this on a daily basis. Keep doing all the great things you do ______! You are a third grader who shines!
12. It has been a pleasure getting to know ______ this quarter. When ______ participates in class discussions, he contributes both relevant and interesting content; I would love to hear even more from him next quarter! ______ reading skills and use of appropriate reading strategies are also showing improvement. ______ often hesitates to begin writing, not yet understanding what a good writer he is once he gets going. Goals for the next quarter include bolstering comprehension through the consistent use of reading strategies and improving confidence in writing. Keep up all the great things you are doing ______! You are a wonderful student, and you are a third grader who truly shines!
Second and Third Quarters
1. ______ continues to do well in third grade. He has made great strides with his analysis and synthesis of text during reading and has improved his comprehension of informational material as a result. ______ has also been working hard in writing. He did a terrific job on his biography report. In class, ______ has been doing a very good job staying on task and focused on his work. He seems to be taking greater pride in the work he turns in, and the quality has improved. Homework still needs to be turned in more consistently. Keep doing all the great things you are doing ______. You are a great listener and you always have so much to add to our class conversations. I am so proud of you for your hard work. I can hardly wait to see all the great things you do this last quarter.
2. Room 14 would not be the same without ______! She brings a smile through our door, along with great enthusiasm each morning. ______ is a strong critical thinking, always wondering why and how things happened. This skill has helped her make great strides in her reading comprehension as she is able to analyze text, make inferences and draw conclusions. Her writing continues to strengthen, although it is often challenging for her to get her thoughts onto the paper. ______ loves math and continues to do well in this area. We do continue to work on listening skills on a daily basis. ______ frequently needs to be told to do something three or four times before she does it, even everyday tasks such as putting her name on her paper or signing up for lunch. Staying on task for any period of time is also a challenge and I work with her daily to stay focused. Our goal is for her to become independent and automatic in everyday tasks and listening to directions and discussions. Keep doing all the great things you are doing ______. I am so proud of you for the effort you are putting into your work. I can hardly wait to see what great things you do this last quarter!
3. ______ continues to be an awesome third grader! She is focused on her learning, highly motivated, and conscientious in her work. She is coming along great in her reading and writing skills. She has made great strides with her analysis and synthesis of text during reading and has improved her comprehension of informational material as a result. Although ______ is doing well on her multiplication facts, she should continue to review them on a daily basis in order to retrieve them quickly during daily math assignments. ______ continues to complete her assignments in very neat and organized manner and I am always proud of her work. Way to go ______! I can hardly wait to see the great work you do in your final quarter of third grade!
4. ______ has made very nice academic progress this quarter. He has been putting forth greater effort in all of his subject areas. ______ continues to grow as a reader and writer; he has some wonderful ideas for stories and he’s having an easier time getting them on paper. ______ is reading for longer periods of time and is able to retell the basic details of what he has read. ______ can be an insightful thinker and I enjoy when he shared his thoughts and ideas in an appropriate manner. We continue to work on a daily basis on managing emotions and controlling inappropriate outbursts in the classroom. There has been some improvement in these areas over the past several weeks. Keep up the wonderful things you are doing ______. I'm so proud of you for all the great work you have done so far this year!
5. ______ has made good progress across the curriculum since the beginning of the school year. He continues to show growth in his math skills and is willing to ask questions when he is unsure of what to do--a must for learning! ______ is really working on being a good friend and classmate, respecting other’s space and time much more. We continue to work on returning homework assignments at this time although he has been doing better the last few weeks. Keep up the wonderful things you are doing ______. I'm so proud of you for all the great work you have done so far this year!
6. ______ has had a very good quarter. She is so inquisitive and such a good thinker, our classroom would not be the same without her. She always asks the questions that others thinking too. I’ve noticed ______ is taking more time on her work, and the quality that has resulted is evident; we are seeing many fewer careless mistakes, and that is wonderful. ______ is also becoming much more aware of the reading strategies that work best for you and her understanding. When we are conferencing, she knows when she needs to go back and reread or when inferencing is necessary. For the next quarter, I would like to see ______ turning all assignments in on time. Keep up all the great things you are doing ______. I’m so proud of the progress you are making, I hope you are too!
7. Once again, ______ has had a very good quarter. She is working hard and making progress in all areas. ______ consistently makes good choices in all she does. Her contributions to class discussions are numerous and very relevant; through them, she demonstrates she is listening and using critical thinking skills. She has done a very good job memorizing her math facts and I know she will master them by the end of the year. ______ has shown nice improvement in turning homework assignments in on time consistently. Continue to do all the wonderful things you are doing ______! I can hardly wait to see all the wonderful things you accomplish in this final quarter of third grade!
8. ______ continues to have a fantastic third grade year. She is a critical thinker who is able to analyze literature from varying viewpoints. She asks many thought provoking questions during class discussions which often help get her classmates engaged in the conversations. ______ written expression skills continue to get stronger and stronger and she is making progress with writing conventions such as spelling and punctuation. ______ seems to have gained greater confidence in her abilities as a mathematician, and she is beginning to seek new challenges in math. Everyone in our classroom appreciates ______ kind and thoughtful demeanor. Keep up the great work ______! You are doing wonderfully!
9. ______ continues to do very well in third grade. He is becoming an excellent writer as his ideas and organization continue to get stronger. ______ enjoys his class work and taking on new challenges, especially in math. He is a good listener and critical thinker, and I love to hear him to share his ideas in class, he has so much to offer! ______ has a gift for making friends and treating classmates with kindness. His work ethic and kind demeanor make him a role model in our classroom. Keep up all the wonderful work you are doing ______. You are a joy to have in class and I can hardly wait to see the great things you achieve in the last quarter of third grade!

She works hard to complete all assignments in a timely manner. ______ reading comprehension continues to strengthen as she is reading more challenging text. ______ appreciates positive support and encouragement, and I like that she checks to make sure she is on the right track when she needs to. ______ has been focusing on improving her writing skills and her effort shows with more organized and focused sentences and paragraphs. She has done a great job learning her multiplication/division fact families. ______ enjoys her friends and the entire class, (including me!) enjoys ______ for her kind, sweet demeanor. Keep up all the great things you are doing ______; you are such a hard worker! I can hardly wait to see what you accomplish during your final quarter of third grade.

Her sentences are more organized and our goal is to make sure all sentences are complete thoughts. She is doing a good job of learning her multiplication/division fact families. ______ enjoys her friends and the class enjoys ______ for her kind, sweet demeanor. He enjoys problem solving and undertaking challenging tasks. ______ is writing clear complete sentences in all of his work and he has shown such a love for reading! He continues to work on strengthening the speed and accuracy of his division/multiplication fact families. ______ has been doing a good job of late interacting in a positive manner with his classmates, something I would like to see continue next quarter. Classmates appreciate his support, kindness and encouragement whenever he shows it. Keep up your hard work ______. I’m looking forward to seeing all that you do this last quarter!

He enjoys problem solving and undertaking challenging tasks. ______ writing has improved and we continue to work on writing clear complete sentences in all of his work. ______ enjoys reading and is doing a great job on using the comprehension strategies he has been taught. In math, he continues to work on strengthening the speed and accuracy of his division/multiplication fact families. ______ continues to work on interacting in a positive manner with his classmates and others in the school. 14. ______ continues to have a great third grade year! He works hard to keep himself focused and on the right track. ______ reading and writing are both improving. He is using comprehension strategies more effectively in both fiction and non-fiction selections. In writing, ______ frequently writes incomplete sentences and we are working on his recognizing when he has written a fragment that does not make sense. In math, ______ enjoys problem solving tasks and appreciates immediate feedback, so he knows he is succeeding. Memorizing basic facts continues to be a goal. ______ kindness is appreciated by all in our classroom. I am looking forward to seeing all the wonderful things ______ does during his final quarter of third grade.
15. ______ has had another very good quarter. He has made great strides in reading, and I’ve seen solid improvement in both his narrative and informational comprehension skills. ______ has also been working hard in writing. He did a fantastic job on his disaster report. ______ has wonderful thoughts and ideas for everything he writes, but translating them to paper can be challenging at times. We continue to work on writing clear, organized sentences with proper punctuation. Math skills continue to be a strength for ______. Improving speed and accuracy of his basic facts continues to be a goal. He should continue practicing multiplication facts nightly until he has memorized them. ______, you are doing such a great job, and you should be so proud of yourself. I can hardly wait to see what terrific things you do this last quarter!
Fourth Quarter
1. It has been so nice working with ______ during her third grade year. She is a strong student who has made good progress in all academic areas. Her reading comprehension showed great insight and understanding of what she read. ______ has set a great example for all with her good attitude, motivation and behavior. I truly appreciate ______ for the enthusiasm she put into her learning throughout the year and for the leadership she brought to our classroom daily. 2. It has been so nice working with ______ during her third grade year. She is a very good student who has made excellent progress in all academic areas. ______ final quarter has been her best as she is taking time to complete assignments with quality, and she has been working hard on being a good friend to all. 3. It has been so nice working having the opportunity to work with ______ during his third grade year. He has grown tremendously in all areas of the curriculum and has shown himself to be well balanced in both academic and social areas. Over the course of the year, ______ has gained a true passion for reading. I am impressed daily by his ability to discuss what he is reading, showing deep understanding within and beyond the text. ______ has been able to make text to text and text to world connections with so much of what he reads due to his background knowledge and the rich life experiences he has had. During the second half of the quarter, ______ also showed that he understood the importance of slowing down and making sure he was careful with his work, which resulted in great improvement in the quality of his work. I truly appreciate ______ for the effort he has put into his learning and I greatly enjoyed our frequent discussions on school and life’s happenings in general. He has grown tremendously in all areas of the curriculum and has shown himself to be well balanced in both academic and social areas. Reading skills have steadily improved over the year and ______ is now reading fluently and with expression and with greater confidence. During this last semester he has impressed me daily with how hard he was working and how focused he was on doing a good job. I truly appreciate ______ for the effort she has put into her learning, the kindness she shows towards others and the bright beautiful smile she has brought into our classroom each day. Reading skills have steadily improved over the year. She has found a few books she loves to read and I would love to see that continue, as she is now able to sustain reading for twenty minutes. Over the summer she would really benefit from getting in 20 minutes of sustained reading daily, working her way up to thirty minutes. ______ will also benefit from working on writing and math over the summer to maintain all the great skills she has gained. I truly appreciate ______ for the effort she has put into her learning, the great attitude she has in class, the perseverance she has shown and the bright beautiful smile she has brought into our classroom each day. 15. It has been so nice having the opportunity to work with ______ throughout his third grade year. He has made such good progress in all areas of study and has shown himself to be well balanced in all subjects. ______ has taken great pride all year in putting top effort into everything he has done and it has shown in the quality of work he produces. ______ is very motivated to do well and has a strong work ethic which helps him achieve at high levels. He is also a friend to so many in our class and the entire third grade; they enjoy his sense of humor and knowledge of sports, Legos and all sorts of other things that interest nine year olds. ______ sets a great example for all with his good attitude and behavior in the classroom.
