Man Charged in Break-In at Sandra Bullock's Home

Prosecutors today filed criminal charges against a Montrose man accused of breaking into the home of actress Sandra Bullock over the weekend, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Wendy Segall of the Target Crimes Division said Joshua James Corbett (dob 6/4/75) is charged with one felony count each of first-degree residential burglary, stalking and possession of a machine gun. He is charged in case BA425880.

The defendant is expected to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Prosecutors have recommended that his bail be set at $185,000.

Corbett allegedly climbed a fence to access Bullock's West Los Angeles property and broke into the home at approximately 5 a.m. on June 8, the prosecutor said. Bullock was home at the time of the purported break-in.

Police responded to a 911 call from inside the victim's residence. Corbett was arrested at the scene. The defendant was not in possession of the machine gun at the time of the break-in, the prosecutor said.

If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a maximum state prison sentence of seven years, four months. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
