DAY 1-ARMT Practice-MAIN IDEA AND DETAILS

Read the passage and answer the questions.

NASA selects astronaut candidates with both civilian and military backgrounds. Once a candidate is chosen, he or she must go through a very challenging training program for one year. After completing the training course, the candidate joins the astronaut corps. About one year later, he or she may be assigned to a flight.

Once an astronaut has completed the basic training, he or she trains in a specialized area. The astronaut can train as a pilot astronaut, a mission specialist, or a payload specialist. The pilot is in charge of the shuttle, crew, and mission. The mission specialist monitors the shuttle’s food, water, and fuel. He or she also conducts experiments and space walks. The payload specialist is in charge of equipment unique to the shuttle and its mission.

I want them to do this independently so that I can tell who needs practice with each skill. The rest of our ARMT/SAT 10 practice will be done as a whole class, in small groups, and with partners. I am practicing for the ARMT/SAT 10 for 3 weeks prior to the test.
