REMINDER TO ALL MEMBERS

Lockheed Martin's Workplace Security policy, CPS-565 is strictly enforced. One provision of the policy is a workplace free of weapons, which includes Firearms, Ammunition, Bows and Arrows. The club must emphasize this policy to our members. Additionally, a state issued CCW permit does not supersede nor over ride this LMA policy.

Members wanting to store firearms or archery equipment during the day ONLY, must contact Gene Adamson (1-1531) or Dave Mulholland (7-3674) for access instructions.

DAMAGE TO ELECTRONIC GATE

We seem to be experiencing an unusually high rate of breakage for the wooden arm of the electronic gate that controls access to Skyline’s firearms ranges. Most of the breakages are not reported at the time of the incident, so we don’t know why or how the wooden arm is being broken.

In the interest of preventing future breakages, we are trying to gather data on how the breakages occur. If you have any knowledge of how a breakage occurred, we would like to hear from you. The information can be provided on a “no-fault” or anonymous basis, we don’t want to punish anyone, we want to fix the problem. The electronic gate was a significant expense to the corporation on behalf of the club, and it resulted in a significant convenience to club members. We, as club members, have a responsibility to control access to the property and the ranges in a meaningful way, and continued use of the electronic gate is in our best interest. If the electronic gate is broken too frequently, it is not an effective way to control access to the range. In that case, we would revert to the “back-up” locking metal gate that is near the electronic gate. Most of us would like to avoid that.

Please report any information on breakages directly to Dennis Casey at 303-971-7197. If you want to report the information anonymously, call after 7 PM or on a weekend and leave a message. Our message system does not record phone numbers for incoming calls.

Alternative to Electronic Gate

As a result of instances where the electronic gate has been damaged, the club will use the manual gate that is located just past the electric one (in bound) as a backup. The combination lock on that gate will be the same as the former SHFC lock on the front gate. The club member is still required to "wand" their electronic gate card at the electronic gate for accountability. Signs are being placed that will Caution personnel approaching the gate(s).

MAIN GATE CHANGE

Notice to ALL SHFC members and agencies that utilize the ranges. We have had several incidents that have necessitated a change to the Wadsworth gate locking approach. Please read and follow the instructions below.

* There is now only one lock and a single length of chain on the gate.

* That lock will be "owned" by Plant Protection

* Plant Protection has released the single combination to Ridge Riders, SHFC, Robinson and anyone else with a need to know.

* If anyone else needs in - they call Plant Protection (a sign with their contact info will be posted at the gate)

* The gate is to be kept closed and locked at all times. We cannot leave it open for events, it must be closed and locked if we are not going through it. i.e. you will have to escort your guests. If you find it open, lock it.

Our SHFC lock has been removed.

The Sergeant and Greenleaf (S&G) locks operate as follows. First clear the lock by turning the dial clockwise at least three turns (clearing the lock). Then with the dial on zero, "0", turn the dial four turns counterclockwise to the first number, then clockwise to 0. It should open. Don't get frustrated, it's a lock, you're the thinking portion of this.

Please challenge all personnel found inside the gate to show their badge. If the persons challenged cannot or will not produce their badge when asked , please report them immediately to Plant Protection.

REDDING RELOADING EQUIPMENT

The 50% discount on Redding equipment that SHFC is currently enjoying will expire on Dec 31. Based on this years volume so far, next year our discount will be 46%. This is not much of a difference, but if you want to maximize on the discount let's order this year. November 15th is the cutoff for all 2007 orders. EMAIL me your order before then and I will process it, but the sooner, the better. You snooze, you lose. I will not place any new order during the Christmas break; too much of a hassle. Thanks. Vito 7-9527 [vito.deangelis@]

ARCHERY 2007

Archery Hunting on LMSSC property notes:

Please notify Mitch Arnold and/or Jim Gilmore of any animals taken on the LMSSC property.

It is a SHFC requirement that all animals harvested on LMSSC property be taken in for CWD testing.

The animals harvested during the regular archery season are as follows:

Buck - David Thomas

Buck and Doe - Dan Amerman

Doe - Alan Wilson

Bull - Randy Stolba

Bull - Dale Stolba

All archery hunters utilizing a RIFLE season tag but using archery equipment are required by CDOW regulations to wear 500 sq in of blaze orange including a blaze orange cap.

There is now a “keep out” zone that restricts personnel from being within a 600 ft radius of a hydrogen tank in the M-50 area.

• People may not go into the keep out zone.

• If a true emergency situation exists in the keep out zone - call Plant Protection.

• SHFC members will be notified when this “keep out” zone requirement is no longer in effect

shotgun Range use and combo change

We have experienced unauthorized use of the skeet range in the past few weeks. The machines were not safed in the correct manor. In an attempt to keep this from continuing, the bird house combination has been changed. A listing of certified trap and skeet range officers will be posted.

There was a lot of hard work expended in getting the high house thrower back and running after the house blew over this Spring. Please help use keep the hardware in a correctly maintained state by contacting a certified range officer if you can not shoot at our regularly scheduled shoots. Tim Anderson (303) 269-5367 (W)

Summer 3-Gun

Due to popular demand, we have a summer 3-Gun shoot on the last Saturday of the month in August (25th), September (29th) and October (27th). The shoot will start at 4:00 pm and run to about 7:00 pm. Course setup starts around 3:00 pm. For those new to 3-gun, it is similar to our Wednesday night practical pistol except we shoot the pistol, shotgun and semi-auto carbine/rifle for a combination of accuracy and speed. Since the Summer 3-Gun runs concurrent to practical pistol, we’ll have a heavier emphasis on the rifle and shotgun. Ammo requirement is roughly 30 rounds of pistol, 100 rounds of rifle, 50 rounds of shot gun (mostly birdshot and occasionally 10 rounds of slug and buckshot).

HIGH POWER RIFLE (Service/Match Rifle/CMP)

High Power matches are conducted every off-Friday, beginning at 09:00 AM and finishing by noon or 1:00 PM. We welcome all types of high power service or match rifles; some choose to shoot the Garand or M1A but the AR15 is the choice of most. The club has two AR15s, and a spotting scope with stand which are available to use during matches. Ammo is also available at a reasonable price.

Check the club website for the regional schedule as well as articles for the aspiring high power competitor. For further information, or to check out club equipment, please call Gene Adamson (1-1531) or Dennis Casey (1-7197) with any questions.

CALLING ALL JUNIORS!!!

Service Rifle and Match Rifle competition is one of the fastest growing competitive facets of the shooting sports, with lots of opportunity to compete on a local, regional, and national level. Competitors are ranked based on previous competition results (Marksman, Sharpshooter, Expert, Master, High Master) allowing individuals to compete with others of similar ability and experience. We are looking for Juniors (18 and below) to participate in SHFC’s Junior High-power program. Juniors will use SHFC’s Bushmaster CMP rifles, and other equipment. SHFC will provide individual coaching, pay for attendance at the above clinic, pay match entry fees and provide match ammo. For additional information, please contact Bill Wilson at Olbullets@, Dennis Casey at 1-7197, or Gene Adamson at 1-1531.
