A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE BROOKLAND-CAYCE HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM, OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, FOR A WINNING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR CAPTURING THE 2008 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to learn that the Brookland-Cayce High School varsity baseball team has had a successful season and won the 2008 Class AAA State Championship; and

Whereas, in a perfect season, the Brookland-Cayce Bearcats were 10 and 0 in Region IV standings and had a 30 and 2 overall record, and their state championship was all the more impressive because they defeated the defending state champions; and

Whereas, to the distress of their adversaries and the delight of their admirers, the Bearcats swept A.C. Flora in only two games to win the championship on May 14, 2008; and

Whereas, twelve seniors led their team to victory, nine of whom have committed to play college ball, bringing great pride and recognition to their school and their community; and

Whereas, in a game that requires skill, strength, and strategy, Coach Brian Hucks and Assistant Coaches Bo Bowers, Adam Gantt, Herby Hucks, Kevin Kunkle, Justin Lee, Bryan Schroder, Justin Scurry, and Kollin Wilkes have forged a championship team through tireless effort in rigorous practices; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate commend the Brookland-Cayce Bearcats for garnering the 2008 Class AAA State Championship and look to hearing of future successes from this talented team. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Brookland-Cayce High School varsity baseball team, of Lexington County, for a winning season, and congratulate the players and coaches for capturing the 2008 Class AAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Scott Newman and Coach Brian Hucks.
