From Northern Outdoors, head North on Rt. #201 to Jackman. Along the way you can stop at scenic pullouts such as Lake Parlin and Attean Overlook to see the Moose River valley.

In Jackman you can canoe the popular and very beautiful Moose River. The 34-mile Moose River Bow Trip is one of the most outstanding canoe trips in Maine. From Jackman, take RTE 6/15 south to Greenville.

Greenville is nestled on the shores of the 40-mile long Moosehead Lake. Nestled among scenic mountain ranges, Moosehead Lake in Maine is the largest lake east of the Mississippi contained within one state. Moosehead Lake's island studded waters stretch as far as the eye can see and are surrounded by vast forested wilderness. The area's tourism history dates back to the 1890's when you could take a train from New York City directly to Greenville to enjoy the lake and the grand hotel at the base of Mount Kineo. Trains to the region are a thing of the past, but this has not decreased the popularity of the area. Moosehead Lake provides swimming, boating and fishing grounds to a host of families and sportsmen and women.

As you might guess from its name, the Moosehead area also boasts a large population of moose. Local guides offer Moose Safaris via float plane, canoe or kayak. During your stay at one of the area's lodges or inns, visit The Katahdin. She is a gracefully restored 1914 steamship that now serves as a floating museum. The Katahdin offers scenic tours of Moosehead Lake from late June through Columbus Day weekend.

From the lake's western shore, you can also explore majestic Mount Kineo, where you can hike, play a round of golf on a scenic 9-hole golf course, or just wander the grounds of the once-grand Mount Kineo House.

Then drive South on RTE 6/15 to Abbott Village and connect to Rt. #16 South to Bingham. From Rt. #16 in Bingham, head North on Rt. #201 for more scenic views back to Northern Outdoors.
