Letter to parents informing them of free period products for learnersAddress line oneAddress line twoTownCountyPostcodeDateRE: The DfE’s free period products schemeDear name of parent,I am happy to inform you that the DfE is making period products available to all learners for free – this means that female, non-binary and transgender learners will not be held back from accessing education due to their periods. [Please delete the following sentence if it does not apply to your school.] Unfortunately, learners on higher education qualifications and apprentices are not covered by the scheme. In accordance with the scheme, the school will be able to obtain and distribute the following products for free: Period padsEnvironmentally friendly period padsReusable period padsApplicator tamponsNon-applicator tamponsMenstrual cups[There is no set way to distribute products, but you may wish to consider one of the following methods.][Delete or amend as appropriate] Products will be available in toilets and communal areas around the school; we have chosen this method as we believe it reduces stigma and any feelings of embarrassment learners may have. By putting products in communal areas, e.g. the library, this allows learners who may not use the female toilets the opportunity to access products.[Delete or amend as appropriate] Products will be available from staff members; this prevents products being tampered with (as they could be in communal areas) and minimises any feelings of embarrassment learners may have. Finally, requesting products from staff members makes it easier for staff members to provide learners with safety information. [Delete or amend as appropriate] Products will be available by restricted access, using token vending machines and lockers placed near toilet areas; we deemed this to be the safest option as products cannot be tampered with or taken when they are not needed. This option also minimises embarrassment, as learners will not need to ask staff members for help. To ensure learners choose the right products for themselves, we will be providing them with safety information prior to use. For the safety of your children, I would also like to ask that you let us know if you or your children have ever experienced an allergic reaction to any period products or materials. We understand this is a sensitive subject, so any information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality; however, some period products carry a risk of toxic shock syndrome, so our learners’ health and safety is our priority. If you would like to report any allergies to us in confidence, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email or telephone number.Yours sincerely,NameJob role ................
