16th July 2019 Dear Parent / Carer, I am writing to inform you about a number of sessions and workshops taking place in Sheffield during the Summer holidays. These opportunities will help to support your child’s literacy. It is important that you encourage your child to keep up with their reading and writing over the holidays. Reading at Burngreave LibraryWe are lucky to have a wonderful library in Burngreave and it would be good if your child visited this Summer. The library has a great selection of books, music and films that are free to borrow. Space Change Reading Challenge: A chance for children to get an alien sticker for every book they read and track their reading using an online space-themed game. The library is open: Monday 10-12.30pm & 1.30-5pm; Wednesday 10-12.30pm & 1.30-5pm; Friday 10-12.30pm & 1.30-5pmSaturday 10-1pmThere are lots of other free events for young people taking place in libraries across the city (such as craft events, writing workshops and coding workshops). You can find out more information about them here: Writing OnlineThe Pobble 365 website provides a free writing prompt for children every day of the year: Writing at Grimm & CoGrimm & Co in Rotherham are running an intensive three-day creative writing workshop for 11-to-14 year olds. You can sign up here: Writing at Theatre DeliOn Sat 20th July there is a free 2-hour poetry workshop based around sci-fi ideas. More information can be found here. This event is for people of all ages: Drama at A Mind ApartA Mind Apart are running two Summer workshops which aim to promote play and creativity through performance.
