(The Scriptures Jesus is telling them to search is the Old Testament text. The writings of Moses is the first five books of the Bible which Jesus says was written all about Him!)

 

John 8:58 58 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am."   (This is a fulfillment of God's presence in the Exodus. Jesus is THE revelation of the Father)

 

John 12:41 41 Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him.  (This is a fulfillment of Isaiah 6.  Jesus is the glory of the Father)

 

All throughout Acts, the apostles are preaching Christ.  Jesus brings meaning to their sermons to both the Holy Spirit and God the Father.

 

Romans 8:28-29 8 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.  (God's whole goal for the cosmos and especially the church is that He predestinated us to be conformed to the image of Jesus so that He is the firstborn or the priority among all of the brothers!)

 

By the way, Martin Luther said that he preached the gospel every week because his people forgot the gospel.  I know I forget the gospel every week.  I preach the gospel weekly to remind myself!

 

Romans 15:19-20 20 and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else's foundation...  (It was Paul's AMBITION to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in all things and to all people)

2 Corinthians 3:18 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (Jesus Christ is the Lord whom we are being transformed into)

Ephesians 1:9-10 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

(Jesus Christ is the mystery of God's will and He is the purpose of God's plan - that God would unite everything including everyone to Christ.  We can't speak of God's will or God's plan apart from Jesus.)

 

Ephesians 3:8-10 8 To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things, 10 so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.  (God's grace to Paul was that He preach how Christ is the riches, manifold wisdom, and the revealed OT mystery of God to all people - Gentiles).

 

Philippians 3:7-14 7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith- 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. 12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  (Jesus is the most important gain and knowledge of Paul.  Jesus is the righteousness of God for our justification and sanctification.  Jesus is our resurrection and He is our motivation for suffering.  Jesus is the PRIZE that Paul is running for!)

 

Colossians 1:15-18 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities- all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.  (Jesus is the perfect revelation of the Father.  He is the priority of all God's creation.  Everything was created through Christ and for Christ.  Jesus is the entire meaning of the church itself.  We should NEVER think of the church or the Word of God apart from Christ.  God's goal is that He might have the preeminence in our lives!)

 

Colossians 3:9-10 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.  (Paul is picking up language here from Col 1.  Jesus is our Creator.  Sanctification and spiritual growth is nothing less that bening renewed in the knowledge after the image of Jesus Christ!)

 

2 Timothy 4:1-2 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.  (Our calling as pastors is to preach the Word.  The Word isn't a "what", but it is a "Who" - Jesus Christ. Refer to John 1:1)

 

The point of Hebrews is that Jesus is a better EVERYTHING!  He's better than the angels, He's better than the OT characters, He's better than the Old Covenant, He's a better sacrifice, He's a better King, He's a better Priest, and He's a better Prophet.  If we teach on any of these things, we must preach and teach their fulfillment in Christ!

 

Revelation 22:12-13 12 "Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay everyone for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end."  (Jesus is the beginning and the end, shouldn't we then include all things in the middle and say that the middle is Jesus?!)
