The Miracle of Christmas

On Christmas Eve, ninety students from La Salle College High School will deliver presents to the homes of over eighty oncology and hematology patients from Saint Christopher’s Hospital for Children. For the past fifteen years, La Salle College High School has partnered with Committee to Benefit the Children to provide the miracle of Christmas to these children and their families. Over $12,000 will be raised by the La Salle community to purchase approximately 700 gifts that will be wrapped, tagged, bagged, and delivered on the morning of Christmas Eve. Over thirty parents and fifteen alums will accompany the students as they make the deliveries, sing songs, and bring joy to each and every household. Food drives at local companies will generate food baskets and a turkey for each family. Fifteen “Santas,” along with their elves, will deliver presents to patients and their families in twelve different counties in two states stretching from Atlantic County to Carbon County and Mercer County to Berks County. In total, over 175 children will be serviced by the program and over 200 members of the La Salle community will contribute to the effort.

Secret Santa is NOT associated with the “Giving Trees” positioned at the main entrance of the school as these gifts support Operation Santa Claus and local families in need. All toys and presents for Secret Santa are purchased through funds donated by the La Salle community.

All students and drivers must report to the Marian Chapel by 8:00 am on December 24, 2016 for a brief meeting. Students should be dressed in casual, comfortable clothing that display LA SALLE or other school logos/graphics. Students will return to La Salle College High School between 1:00 and 3:00 that afternoon.

The program is limited to 90 students and preferences will be given to those students who have participated in the past. The spots will fill quickly as the program is very popular. In order for a “group application” to be processed and accepted, all six applications must be signed by a parent and submitted together. The role of Santa must be determined in advance – groups may not “figure it out that morning” – and both drivers (and the type of vehicle) must be identified. Once a student (and his group) has been accepted he will receive an email at his lschs address. All names and groups will be posted on the bulletin board outside of the Student Affairs Office as well as the Campus Ministry Office by Friday, December 16, 2016.

All applications must be in an envelope addressed to “Chris Carabello” or “Secret Santa” and delivered to the Main Office. The deadline for all applications is Friday, December 2, 2016. Due to the overwhelming number of students who wish to participate in the program, late applications will not be accepted.
