We strongly recommend that you take time to read this manual and familiarise yourself with the POWABYKE SHOPPER before riding.

Maximum recommended rider weight = 17 Stone.

When riding the POWABYKE SHOPPER it is important to exercise common sense and respect surrounding environments. By riding and using the POWATRYKE SHOPPER you assume the responsibility for any risk involved in its use.

If you have any questions or problems regarding the POWABYKE SHOPPER please contact your authorised POWABYKE Dealer.

POWABYKE SHOPPER Safety.

1) Obey all traffic laws.

2) Always wear head protection and suitable clothing for the conditions.

3) Never carry another person on the rear rack.

4) Check front and rear brakes are working correctly.

5) Always check the battery is securely fastened before each use.

6) Avoid leaving the POWABYKE SHOPPER out in the rain or damp conditions for any extended period of time.

Do not attempt any sort of jump or trick riding on the POWABYKE SHOPPER.

Starting out.

When you are happy with the saddle height by adjusting it up or down using the quick release mechanism and pulling up or pushing down the seat (able to touch the ground with both feet), and the POWABYKE SHOPPER is checked over to your satisfaction you may turn on the ignition on the right of the battery case. Take care when doing this as the POWABYKE SHOPPER will accelerate from a standing start if the throttle is twisted in position P on the handle bars and back pedalled at the same time. We recommend that you pedal to initiate movement and then twist the throttle to accelerate. This small amount of assistance will extend the life of the battery, as accelerating from a dead start uses the most amount of power. It also prevents undue strain on the electrics.

Pedalling up inclines will help the overall performance of the POWABYKE SHOPPER. You may pedal at any time whilst under power only mode (P).

Tyres.

IMPORTANT

All bikes performance’s, manual or electric, are affected by low tyre pressure.

Your range, speed, and safety, will be greatly reduced by under-inflated tyres, check the manufacturers rating (on the side-wall of the tyre) for recommend pressure.

Most recommend 40 – 65 p.s.i. (pounds per square inch)

Do not exceed the recommended pressure – it could damage the tyre or cause it to explode. , and prevent your tyres going below the minimum.

As a general rule of thumb if you are sat on the bike and the rear tyre ‘squashes outwards’ they need inflating.

We recommend they are checked once a week, please ensure that the dust caps are kept on the valves

Please consult your authorised Powabyke dealer when you need new tyres fitting to ensure that the correct tyres are supplied and fitted.

Maintenance.

You will have to clean and lubricate your POWABYKE SHOPPER on a periodic basis. It is a normal bike and therefore needs the same care and attention given to any bike. This includes, lubricating the chain (lightly), checking front and rear brake blocks for wear, checking major bolts for tightness and generally keeping the POWABYKE SHOPPER in good working order.

Charging the battery.

The battery can be charged at any domestic 13-amp power supply but only using the charger supplied. Ensure the ignition is switched off before charging. The battery can be charged whilst on the bike or can be removed. If removing the battery, unlock it by pushing in the keys and turning anti-clockwise (similar to some car ignitions) and, using the folding handle, carefully pull it out of the frame. Take care not to let it ‘swing’ as it is a heavy item.

Plug the charger into the battery and then into the mains. The charger should show a red led, this indicates that the charging has begun. When a green led shows, the charging is complete. When the charger is on but not connected an orange led will show. The charger has a built in over charge protector but none the less avoid leaving the charger for long periods of time on the green led.

Tips: If possible always recharge the battery upon completion of each journey, no matter how short.

Never charge the battery in wet conditions.

The charge unit will heat up slightly during charging, this is quite normal.

Never leave the battery in a fully discharged state. This may cause irreversible damage which may void your warranty.

Avoid leaving the POWABYKE SHOPPER unused for extended periods of time. The battery needs to be used often and charged often.

Long Life.

If storing the battery for long periods of time please ensure that the battery is fully charged, and is then re-charged once a month.

A battery in storage discharges at approx. 5- 10 % per month without use. if the battery is allowed to deplete it will probably be damaged and may need to be replaced.

Please store the battery at room normal temperature and avoid leaving on concrete floors.

Battery Recycling.

During long term ownership or usage you will find it necessary to replace the battery unit of the SHOPPER. POWABYKE have established a battery recycling program which allows the battery to be collected from your door, refurbished and delivered back to you within 7 days. An additional charge will be made where it is necessary to replace a damaged case. All refurbished batteries carry an additional 6 months warranty.

This service will be continually available through your local dealer.

How to use the throttle controls

[pic]

To operate the Powabyke in ‘Pure Power Mode’ as opposed to ‘Pedal Assist (PAS)’ the pedals must slightly turn forwards or backwards initially.

Riding Function

1. Choose which function you want then switch on the power. ‘A’ is for Pedal Assist mode (PAS) and ‘P’ is for 3.3km/h start

2. If you choose PAS, you will only have power when you are pedalling, as soon as you stop pedalling the motor will cut out, ‘A’ on the switch. The power is controlled by the throttle.

3. If you choose POWER start, you have to pedal first. When the POWABYKE will start, you can then stop pedalling and let the power take over. Again this is controlled by the throttle.

4. Please switch off and re-switch on when you want to change the function.

How to use the Self-diagnostic Function

1. Switch Off the ignition.
