POSITION: Accountant
• Employment is with Chattahoochee Technical College and not with an individual campus. All employees are subject to work relocation based on college needs.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for performing professional accounting duties associated with analyzing and preparing financial reports and financial information. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Senior Accountant.”
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Baccalaureate Degree required in a course of study related to the occupational field.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Ability to be bonded.

JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing professional accounting duties associated with analyzing and preparing financial reports and financial information. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Senior Accountant.”
MAJOR DUTIES
• Generates and disburse monthly budget comparison reports to department heads.
• Reconciles accounting subsystems to trial balance; analyzes and corrects discrepancies.
• Reconciles asset management subsystem to the fixed assets trial balance.
• Analyzes and interfaces asset management accounting entries.
• Downloads student data from Banner system and creates appropriate accident and malpractice insurance payments per quarter.
• Analyzes risk management invoices; maintains property records.
• Creates/enters General Ledger journal vouchers.
• Reconciles BANNER to PeopleSoft.
• Adds drivers to fuel card database; monitors activity.
• Coordinates student accident insurance claims.
• Generates student billing invoices refunds.
• Receives cash deposits.
• Performs physical inventory.
• Assists the cashier as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
• Knowledge of student accounts management practices.
• Knowledge of college budgeting procedures.
• Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations.
• Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.

• Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Director of Compliance, Reporting and Financial Services assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include reconciliation procedures established by the Technical College System of Georgia, the State Accounting Office, and the Department of Audits. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
• The work consists of varied accounting duties. The need for accuracy contributes to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to perform accounting duties in the maintenance of the college’s financial records. Success in this position contributes to the accuracy of financial records.

• Contacts are typically with co-workers, students, parents, faculty and staff, insurance representatives, and members of the general public.

• The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
