Mrs. Hartman’s Social Studies Vocabulary Activities

Choose one vocabulary activity to complete using the words from the appropriate chapter.

1. VIS Chart: 5 columns (word, definition, sentence, personal clue, pg. # in textbook)

2. Definitions & sentences for all vocabulary (typed)

3. Create a crossword puzzle using all vocabulary with its definitions (you may use an online crossword maker)

4. Write a poem or song using at least half of your vocabulary words

5. Draw pictures representing what each vocabulary word means

6. Create a comic strip on a topic from the chapter in which the vocabulary words come from. If there are more than 10 vocabulary words in the chapter, then you may use at least half of your vocabulary words.

7. Write a tongue twister or alliteration using each of your vocabulary words.

a. Example: Gregg’s great Geography game got goofy.

8. Create an acrostic poem for your vocabulary words.

a. Example: R – Rustic

U – Urban is the antonym

R – Ready for crop planting

A – Area les occupied

L – Land

9. Write a newspaper headline for each of the vocabulary words. Try to use current topics that are newsworthy. You may use up to two vocabulary words in each headline.

10. Take your favorite fairy tale (Hansel and Gretel, The Gingerbread Man, The Tooth Fairy, Cinderella, etc) and rewrite the ending of the story using your vocabulary words.

11. Create a PowerPoint slide show using pictures (found using online sources) to represent the meaning of each vocabulary word. Make sure you have a title slide. Save to a flash drive or e-mail to the teacher.

12. Write a letter to Mrs. Hartman using the five parts of a letter. Pretend you are on a vacation. Use your vocabulary words in the letter to tell me about your trip.

13. Word Mapping: Create a word map for each vocabulary word. This can be done by hand or computer.
