?Edgar Creative Writing CompetitionSpring 2020IntroductionThe Center for Theological Writing (CTW) sponsors the annual Edgar Creative Writing Competition in recognition of Dr. W. Edgar’s emphasis, in his teaching and ministry, on creativity and beauty in literature and the arts as glorifying and revelatory of God. The competition is designed to promote artful, creative, non-academic writing of various kinds: essay, poetry, short story, play or screen scripts (dialogue), etc.EligibilityApplicants must be (1) a current Westminster student in any degree program; but (2) not a member of the CTW staff.Submission GuidelinesGeneral Rules:Submissions should interact with the assigned theme, but should do so creatively. In other words, submissions may interact with the theme directly or indirectly, explicitly or only implicitly. The assigned theme is intended to be a creative starting point only, not the subject of critical or theoretical analysis.Submissions must be previously unpublished.If a student has posted work on a personal blog with no professional review or third-party publication process involved, it is still eligible for the contest. If a student has self-published work in print form (e.g., Amazon self-publishing), it is not eligible for the contest.Submissions are limited to one entry per student.No professional writing assistance permitted. Peer advice is acceptable. Do not consult WTS faculty or CTW staff on the work to be submitted. Seek advice on your submission in good conscience.The principal language of submissions should be English, but use of other languages is permitted. If languages other than English are used, please provide an English translation (but do not include this English translation in your word count). Students may submit an English translation of a project originally conceived or carried out in a language other than English. For example, if a student has written an essay entirely in a language other than English, the student may either submit the original piece with an accompanying English translation, or submit an English translation as the submission. In the former case, the original composition must follow all of the general rules outlined above. To judge an original language submission, the judges may consult a speaker of the original language other than English.Honor Christ with language and content.Format:Word limit is 2,500 words for prose or dialogue.50 lines maximum for poetry.Submissions should be formatted for blind review: No identifying information should be included in the document itself or in the content of the submission.Authors may include an explanation of the submission that is not a part of the submission itself.
