Syllabus

World Literature

Course Description:

A survey of world literature; introduces a variety of authors, past and present through the study of poetry, short stories, nonfiction and drama. The course includes consideration of each era, with the influence of literature on political, philosophical, and the social mores of each time period studied.

Expectations:

1. Be responsible for what you say and do.

2. Be in your seat and in dress code when the bell rings.

3. Bring the necessary materials with you to class to

avoid a tardy.

4. Use the passing period for your personal needs.

5. Papers submitted one day late will be worth 50% of the original grade.

6. Papers later than one day will not be accepted.

7. Cheating or plagiarism will not be tolerated.

8. Please be respectful of yourself and others at all times. No putdowns, inappropriate language, etc.

9. No gum, food or drinks are allowed in class.

Grades:

Grades with be awarded on the following point system:

Class Participation (2pts each week)

Total 15 pts.

Writing Lab 10 pts.

Mid Term 20 pts.

Final 20 pts.

Research Paper 15 pts.

Research Presentation 10 pts.

Homework,Quizes (total) 10 pts.

The standard Lourdes grading scale will be used:

A = 90, B = 89-80, C = 79-70, D = 69-60, F = bellow 60
