GLENN R. RORABAUGH, 88, of La Jose RD 1, died Wednesday, March 23, 1983, at Veteran’s Hospital, Pittsburgh.

A son of Harry and Cora Mitchell Rorabaugh, he was born July 24, 1894, in Mahaffey RD.

Mr. Rorabaugh was a member of Mount Joy United Methodist Church, La Jose RD 1. A former employee of PennDOT, he was a retired farmer and was a veteran of World War I, having served with the 80th Division in France. Mr. Rorabaugh was a member of the William Penn Barracks 3341, Cherry Tree.

Surviving are these children: Blair Franklin of Warren, Ohio, Harry L. of Butler, G. Alton of La Jose RD 1, and Mrs. Frederick (Martha) Curry of Wampum; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Kaufman of Herminie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth B. Rorabaugh on Aug. 1, 1975; and two brothers Golden and Arthur.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today (Friday) and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Melvin C. Gwin Funeral Home, Cherry Tree. The remains will be removed to Calvary Evangelical Church, Cherry Tree RD 2, where friends may call from 1 p.m. Sunday until the time of service at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Evans Mitchell will officiate. Interment will be in Harmony Cemetery, Westover RD 1.

MRS. ELIZABETH B. RORABAUGH, 74, of La Jose RD 1, died Friday, Aug. 1, 1975, at home, after an illness of the past few months.

A daughter of the late Aaron and Amanda Beck Fry, she was born Aug. 6, 1900 in Flinton.

Mrs. Rorabaugh was a member of Mt. Joy United Methodist Church and its church organization. She was a graduate of the former Cherry Tree High School, Class of 1919 and taught school for a short period in Burnside Township.

Surviving are her husband, Glen, whom she married in 1921 at Cherry Tree RD 2; these children: Blair F., Warren, Ohio; Harry L., Butler; G. Alton, La Jose RD 1; Mrs. Frederick (Martha) Curry, Wampum; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Mrs. Lawrence (Alice) Repine, Mrs. Wilbur (Isabelle) Repine, both of Cherry Tree RD 2; Mrs. Ressie Rorabaugh, Arona; two brothers: Aaron, Cherry Tree RD 2; Gordon, Berryville, Ark.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, and a half sister.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Melvin C. Gwin Funeral Home, Cherry Tree. The body will be moved to Calvary Evangelical Church, Cherry Tree RD 2, where friends will be received from noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. J. Robert Singleton officiating. Interment will be in Harmony Cemetery, Westover RD.

MRS. IDA MAY RORABAUGH HAAG, 77, of Ebensburg, formerly of Burnside Township, died Tuesday, June 29 [1954], at 5 a.m.

Daughter of the late Washington and Harriett Rorabaugh, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Minnie Smith of Patchinville, and five brothers: Miles Rorabaugh of Westover; John of Akron, Ohio; Ted of Philadelphia; George of Wilkinsburg and William of Mineral Point.

Friends will be received at the McCracken Funeral Home in Cherry Tree after 7 p.m. today until the hour of services which will be held in the Funeral Home Friday, July 2 at 2 p.m. The Rev. R. H. White will officiate and interment will follow in Mt. Joy cemetery.

MORTIMER RORABAUGH, 76, passed away at his home in Mountville, Pa., April 18, 1960, at 6:05 a.m.

Born August 11, 1883, in Burnside Twp., Clearfield Co., he was a son of Russell and Ellen Byers Rorabaugh. He was a retired civil engineer and a graduate of Lock Haven State College and Penn State University School of Engineering.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Irvin Rorabaugh, and the following children: Col. J. Russell, Stuttgart, Germany; Matthew I., Tallahassee, Fla.; Mildred E., Clearfield; Mary Jo Skiss, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Capt. William R. Alexandria, Va.; ten grandchildren; a brother, Ai, New Providence, Pa.; and two sisters, Mrs. Jane Beck, Burnside, and Miss Mable, Mahaffey R.D.

Friends will be received at the McCardell – Pyott Funeral Home, Burnside, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday where services will be held with Rev. John E. Stebbins officiating.

Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Burnside.

MRS. ALICE RORABAUGH, died on Wednesday, October 31, 1956, at the Fullerton Rest Home, Wood Street, Wilkinsburg, Pa.

Born in Marion Center, October 12, 1872, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Elizabeth Lambing Dunmire. Mrs. Rorabaugh was a resident of Clymer for 42 years where she was an active member of the Clymer Methodist Church and taught in the Sunday School for many years. She was married to William G. Rorabaugh who died in 1947.

Surviving are a son, Blair Rorabaugh of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Edna) Kopp of Lorain, Ohio; two grandsons, William Rorabaugh of Pittsburgh and Dwight Kopp of Cleveland, Ohio; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Edith Wolfe of Indiana, Pa.

Friends will be received Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Robinson – Lytle’s, Indiana, Pa., where services will conducted Saturday, November 3, at 2:00 p.m. The Re. Robert S. Lehman will officiate. Interment in Marion Center Cemetery.

Mahaffey Area Woman Dies In Clearfield

MRS. FRANCES HENCHBARGER RORABAUGH, 78, of Mahaffey R.D. passed away at the home of her daughters, Miss Catherine and Miss Lucinda Rorabaugh of Clearfield Saturday, September 9, 1961.

She was the daughter of Emanuel and Hannah Dunlap Henchbarger, born April 22, 1883, in Clearfield.

Surviving her are three daughters and three sons: Miss Catherine Rorabaugh, Clearfield; Mrs. R. P. (Ethel) Lewis of Pittsburgh; Miss Lucinda Rorabaugh of Clearfield; James of Punxsutawney; Robert and William, both of Burnside; eight grandchildren.

Her husband James preceded her in death several years ago.

Mrs. Rorabaugh was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Clearfield; member of the Jos-Win Susquehanna Chapter DAR; the WCTU of Mahaffey.

Mrs. Rorabaugh possessed sterling qualities of a Christian lady and was loved by all with whom she came in contact.

Friends will be received at the family home, Mahaffey R.D. until 12 noon Tuesday, September 12, when the body will be removed to the Joel T. Pyott Funeral Home, Burnside, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until the hour of service, 2 p.m. September 12. The Rev. John E. Stebbins will officiate and burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery, Burnside.

MILES RORABAUGH, 77, life long resident of Burnside Township passed away this morning, June 6 [1959], at Miner’s Hospital, Spangler.

He was born July 2, 1881, in Burnside Township, son of George Washington and Harriet Wagner Rorabaugh.

He is survived by his wife, the former Ella Straw; two daughters, Mary, wife of Dwayn Roland of Westover RD 1, and Pearl, wife of Donald Miller of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Smith of Patchinville; three brothers, John of Akron, Ohio; Ted of Cherry Tree and George of Pittsburgh; also by four grandchildren.

Friends are received at the McCracken Funeral Home, Cherry Tree, where services will be held Tuesday, June 9, at 2 p.m. the Rev. Richard Engle officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Joy Church Cemetery.

MRS. ELLA STRAW RORABAUGH, 77, of Burnside Township, died Saturday, June 13 [1959], at 3:15 p.m. in Miner’s Hospital, Spangler.

She was born January 21, 1882, in Clearfield County, daughter of John and Fannie Eagler Straw. Her husband Miles Rorabaugh preceded her in death one week ago.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary, wife of Dwayn Roland of Westover RD 1 and Pearl, wife of Donald Miller of Pittsburgh; one brother, Harry Straw of Berwindale and four grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the McCracken Funeral Home, Cherry Tree, where services will be held June 6, at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. Richard Engle will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Joy Church Cemetery.

ERNEST C. RORABAUGH, 69, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Marion Center R. D., died Friday, May 20, 1966, in St. Petersburg.

Born in Tioga County, Pa., on February18, 1897, he was a son of Harry T. and Heddie Hunter Rorabaugh.

The following children survive: Howard and Mrs. Wayne (Hope) Collins, both of Niagara Falls, N. Y.; Paul, Ontario, Calif.; Harry, Dixonville; Mrs. Frank (Nona) Ginter, Cabot, Pa.; Mrs. Calvin (Della) Zinck, St. Petersburg, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters: Murray Rorabaugh, Mrs. James (Grace) Mitchell, Mrs. Frank (Florence) Hefferman and Mrs. Marian Thomas, all of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Harold (Hazel) Ireton, Baltimore.

Friends are being received at the Bence Funeral Home, Clymer, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Rev. Leonard Pearson will officiate and interment will be in Marion Center Cemetery.

GERTRUDE PHILIPPI RORABAUGH, 80, of Penn Hills, formerly of Marion Center, died Friday, April 9, at the home of her son William.

A daughter of Earl M. and Minnie Hamilton Philippi, she was born Jan. 5, 1902 at Canoe Township.

Mrs. Rorabaugh was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Wilkinsburg.

Surviving are her son William on Monroeville; her sister, Mrs. George (Mildred) Williams of Brockway; three brothers, Bruce of Indiana, Carrolton of Marion Center and Richard of Marion Center; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Blair Rorabaugh, in August, 1958, her sisters, Mary and Florence, and brother John.

Friends will be received in the Morris-Knee Funeral Home, Wilkinsburg, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 12. Interment will be at 2 p.m. in the Marion Center Cemetery.

Herbert Adams Rorabaugh

After a short illness, Herbert Adams Rorabaugh, aged 24, died Wednesday night [Oct. 23, 1907] at the home of his parents, Mr. And Mrs. J. W. Rorabaugh in East Mahoning township. His death was due to intestinal tuberculosis. The deceased is survived by his parents, three brothers and one sister. The interment was made in the cemetery at Marion Center.

John W. Rorabaugh

John Wesley Rorabaugh, of East Mahoning township, died at Akron, O., Monday, March 24 [1913], from injuries received in a fall. Mr. Rorabaugh had been working in the mill of the Quaker Oats Co. He was taking a truck of grain up in the elevator, when he was knocked from the elevator, landing at the bottom of the shaft, the grain falling on top of him. He leaves his wife and these children: H. T., Akron, O.; W. G., of Clymer; F. W., of Galeton, and Mrs. Minnie McQuown, of East Mahoning township. The remains were brought to New Washington, Clearfield county, his former home, where the interment was made.

Mr. and Mrs. Matthew J. Rorabaugh, Commodore RD 1, are happy to announce the birth of their first child. Mellissa Ann was born Tuesday, May 10 [1977], at 11 a.m. weighing nine pounds six ounces and measuring 21 inches.

The proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ronald L. Harper Sr., Clymer, their first grandchild, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Rorabaugh, Clymer RD 1. Great-grandparents are Mrs. Rebecca Hawkins, Indiana; Peter Boruch, Clymer RD 1; and Mrs. Nellie Rorabaugh, Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Couple Celebrates 25 Years

Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Rorabaugh of Clymer RD 1 were honored on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary at a dinner held in the private dining room of the Woodlawn Restaurant with their children hosting the event on Saturday, Jan. 13 [1973].

Irene Boruch of Dixonville and Harry E. Rorabaugh of Marion Center were married Jan. 10, 1948 in St. Elizabeth Rectory, Starford, with the Rev. Albert Turlik officiating.

Mrs. Rorabaugh is the daughter of Peter Boruch of Clymer RD 1 and the late Anna Sarnovsky Boruch. Mr. Rorabaugh is the son of the late Ernest C. Rorabaugh and Nellie Murray Rorabaugh, who now resides in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

On Jan. 6 the Rev. Henry J. Marcinek gave the couple a “25th Jubilee” blessing following mass. He also celebrated a mass for their 25th anniversary on Jan. 11 at the request of the couple’s children.

They are the parents of six children: Mrs. William G. (Donna) Batten of Hillsdale; Mrs. Garold L. (Sonya) Russell of Clymer RD 1; Harry T., Matthew J., Mary Anna and Joseph J., all at home.

Completing the family circle are two grandchildren: John E. Batten and Christopher Russell.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Rorabaugh are members of the Sacred Heart Church, Dixonville. Mr. Rorabaugh also belongs to the Knights of Columbus, Council 1481, Indiana.

Mr. Rorabaugh is employed by the U.S. Bureau of Mines as a mine inspector.

Golden Rorabaugh Services Thursday

Golden M. Rorabaugh, 63, of Mahaffey R. D., died Monday morning. He was the son of the late Harry and Cora Mitchell Rorabaugh, and was born March 24, 1898, in Burnside Twp., Clearfield County.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Hurd Rorabaugh; four daughters and two sons, Mrs. Chester Beck, Westover R. D.; Mrs. Thomas Lamer, Mahaffey R.D.; Mrs. Charles Harkleroad, Westover R. D.; Mrs. Andrew Ourey, Grand Island, N. Y.; James and Charles, Mahaffey R. D. Two brothers, Glenn, of LaJose R. D., and Arthur, of Arona, Pa., and one sister, Mrs. David Kauffman, Irwin, and 15 grandchildren survive also.

Funeral services will be held in the Pyott Funeral Home in Burnside Thursday at 2 o’clock. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Burnside Township.

Ethel Rorabaugh Bride Of Richard P. Lewis

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Clearfield, was the scene of a very pretty wedding at high noon Sunday, December 14, when Ethel Jane Rorabaugh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Rorabaugh of Burnside, became the bride of Richard Parr Lewis, son of Dr. E. B. Lewis of Glen Campbell.

They were attended by Mrs. Hope Lewis Mahallick, sister of the bridegroom, and James A. Rorabaugh, brother of the bride.

The pastor, Rev. E. Roy Houser, D. D., used the ring ceremony of the church. Miss Mildred Hauser presided at the piano and played the Lohengrin wedding march and “O Promise Me.”

O. BLAIR RORABAUGH, 3014 Gilmore Avenue, Penn Hill, Pittsburgh, died Tuesday, August 5 [1958].

He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Rorabaugh of Clymer and moved to Wilkinsburg in 1928.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Philippi Rorabaugh; one son, William of Monroeville; one sister, Mrs. Frank Kopp, Lorain, Ohio.

Mr. Rorabaugh was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Wilkinsburg; was an accountant for Crescent Brick Co.; veteran of World War I.

Friends will be received at Turner’s Funeral Home, 729 Wallace Avenue, Wilkinsburg, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held there Friday, August 8, at 10:30 a.m.

Surviving are two daughters and four sons: Vera McBride, Monroeville; Joan McFarland, Indiana; Howard, Independence, Va.; Clyde, Apollo; Harry, Trafford; James, North Huntingdon; 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Rorabaugh in 1979.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Gene H. Corl Funeral Chapel, Inc., 4332 Northern Pike, Monroeville, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Richard Ollinger will officiate. Interment will be in the Uniontown Cemetery, Green Township.

Katie Rorabaugh

Katie Marie Rorabaugh celebrated her first birthday on March 21 [1985]. She is the daughter of Harry and Marilyn Rorabaugh of Indiana RD 3.

Helping Katie celebrate at a party in her honor were sister Lisa, 5, brother Tommy 3 ½, friends and relatives.

Katie is the granddaughter of Fred and Helen Rapach of Indiana RD 3 and Harry and Irene Rorabaugh of Commodore RD 1.

SON-MOTHER – This scene has changed since Roger’s mother, Mrs. Marie Rorabaugh taught him in the fourth grade. Roger is an academic student at Harmony High School. His activities include, basketball statistician, yearbook staff, prom committee, intramurals, athletic club, Sr. class play and was voted most popular in the class. He received the Who Who’s Among American High School students award. After graduation Roger plans to attend Vale Technical Institute in Blairsville.

Vows of marriage were exchanged by Deborah Ann Harper and Matthew John Rorabaugh before the altar of the Sacred Heart Church of Dixonville on June 26 [1976] at 5 p.m. Officiating at the double ring ceremony was the Rev. Thomas A. Stanek. Music was provided by Frank Kershishnik, church organist, and the church choir. Altar boys were Joseph Rorabaugh, brother of the groom, and Kenneth Boruch, the groom’s cousin.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald L. Harper Sr., Clymer. She is a 1976 graduate of Penns Manor High School and is employed as a salesperson by Musser Nursery Inc.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Rorabaugh, Clymer RD 1, the bridegroom was graduated from Purchase Line High School in 1973 and is employed by Greenwich Colleries at South Mines.

Mr. Harper escorted his daughter to the altar where she was presented in marriage by both parents. She wore a white satin empire gown with a high, stand-up collar and long, puffed sleeves that fastened at the wrist. The bodice, sleeves and hemline were edged with white daisy trim. The bride’s only jewelry was a white gold watch, a gift from the groom.

A small crown headpiece secured her daisy-trimmed veiling which fell to a long train at the back. The bride carried a cascade of red roses, white carnations and baby’s breath.

The groom was dressed all in white with a red rose boutonnier.

The bride’s sister, Helen Harper, Clymer, was maid of honor. She was gowned in a mint green sleeveless dress with a V-neckline and topped by a matching bolero jacket. She wore a white picture hat with green streamers and carried three long-stemmed white roses, tipped green, with green streamers.

The bridesmaids were Mary Rorabaugh, Clymer RD, sister of the groom; Valerie James and Brenda Lucas, both of Clymer. They were attired in identical gowns of yellow, blue and orange and each carried a single white rose, tipped to match her gown, with matching streamers.

The attendants each wore a heart-shaped necklace, gifts from the bride.

The flower girls, Karen and Kathleen Harper, sisters of the bride, wore purple and pink gown similar to the other attendants. They each carried a wicker basket and scattered rose petals along the aisle. White picture hats and heart-shaped necklaces completed their attire.

The best man was Harry Rorabaugh, Clymer RD 1, brother of the groom. Performing the duties of ushers were Jeff Fetsko, Dixonville; Ronald and Robert Harper, brothers of the bride. Ringbearers were John Batteb, Hillsdale, and Christopher Russell, Commodore RD, nephews of the groom. The each carried a white satin pillow with rings attached.

For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Harper wore a green floor length gown with a lace coat to match. The groom’s mother wore an orange flowered floor length gown. Both mothers wore white carnations with roses tipped to match their attire.

Following the wedding, a reception was held at the Commodore Community Building. After the buffet luncheon, dancing was enjoyed to the music of the Polka Nuts. Mrs. Ann Marcoaldi, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Sonya Russell, sister of the groom, cut and served the wedding cake which was made by Mrs. Lockhart, Commodore RD.

After July 10, the newlyweds took residence in their home at Commodore RD 1.

United In Marriage In Double Ring Ceremony

The altar of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Dixonville was the scene of the wedding of Miss Sonya Mae Rorabaugh of Dixonville, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rorabaugh of Dixonville, and Garold Lee Russell, son of Mrs. Bernadine Houck of Commodore R.D. 1.

Rev. Andrew Chupela, pastor of the church, officiated Saturday, Feb. 1 [1969], at the double ring ceremony.

The bride was presented at the altar by her father. She wore a floor-length gown of lace and satin featuring three-quarter length lace sleeves and a satin cowl collar. Her veil of illusion was held in place by a flower of satin and pearls. She carried a bouquet of white fuji mums.

Miss Donna M. Rorabaugh, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She was attired in a floor length gown of lime green styled with an Empire waist. Her headpiece consisted of tiny green and white bows scattered throughout her hair and she carried an array of white and green carnations.

The groom chose Robert Fyock of Clymer R.D. 1, as his best man.

Wedding music was provided by Frank Kershishnik. The new Mrs. Russell is a 1968 graduate of Purchase Line High School, and is employed as a clerk-receptionist at the Indiana County Community Action Program.

The bridegroom, a 1965 graduate of Purchase Line High School, is presently enrolled as a senior in the liberal arts curriculum at California State College.

Following a wedding dinner at the Village Inn, the couple left for a stay in the New England States.

STARFORD – Mary Anna Rorabaugh, daughter of Harry E. and Irene Rorabaugh of Commodore RD 1, and Ted Jodon, son of Pearl Jones Jodon of Cherry Tree RD 2, were united in marriage June 2, 1984 during a ceremony at the Saint Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, Starford.

Officiating at the 1:30 p.m. double ring ceremony was the Rev. Leonard J. Bealko.

Escorted to the altar by her father and given in marriage by both parents the bride wore a white floor length gown with a scoop neckline, sheer sleeves with fitted cuffs and a lace fitted bodice that fell to a pleated skirt.

For her headpiece she chose a fingertip veil of imported illusion trimmed with Venice lace that was attached to a Juliet cap with seed pearls. She carried a nosegay of silk rosebuds, carnations and gypsophilia with streamers of angel lace, arranged by the bride.

Serving as maid of honor was the cousin of the bride, Katrina Boruch, Clymer RD 1.

As his best man the groom chose the bride’s brother, Joseph J. Rorabaugh, Clymer RD 1.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents.

The bride is a 1979 graduate of Purchase Line High School.

The newlyweds are residing at Cherry Tree RD 2.

Kevin Russell Rorabaugh weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and measured 19 ¾ inches at birth.

Welcoming Kevin home were his sisters Jamie, 5,; Kimberly, 4; and Kayla, 2.

Couple Celebrates 25 Years

Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Rorabaugh of Clymer RD 1 were honored on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary at a dinner held in the private dining room of the Woodlawn Restaurant with their children hosting the event on Saturday, Jan. 13 [1973].

Irene Boruch of Dixonville and Harry E. Rorabaugh of Marion Center were married Jan. 10, 1948 in St. Elizabeth Rectory, Starford, with the Rev. Albert Turlik officiating.

Mrs. Rorabaugh is the daughter of Peter Boruch of Clymer RD 1 and the late Anna Sarnovsky Boruch. Mr. Rorabaugh is the son of the late Ernest C. Rorabaugh and Nellie Murray Rorabaugh, who now resides in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

On Jan, 6, the Rev. Henry J. Marcinek gave the couple a “25th Jubilee” blessing following mass. He also celebrated a mass for their 25th anniversary on Jan. 11 at the request of the couple’s children.

They are the parents of six children: Mrs. William G. (Donna) Batten of Hillsdale; Mrs. Garold L. (Sonya) Russell of Clymer RD 1; Harry T., Matthew J., MaryAnna and Joseph J., all at home.

Completing the family circle are two grandchildren: John E. Batten and Christopher Russell.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Rorabaugh are members of Sacred Heart Church, Dixonville. Mr. Rorabaugh also belongs to the Knights of Columbus, Council 1481, Indiana.

Mr. Rorabaugh is employed by the U.S. Bureau of Mines as a mine inspector.

Harry Rorabaugh, a retired federal mine inspector, and Irene Boruch, a housewife, were married Jan. 10, 1948, in Starford.

They have six children: Donna Batten, Sonya Russell, Mary Rorabaugh and Matthew Rorabaugh, all of Commodore; Harry T., Indiana; and Joseph, Clymer. Seventeen grandchildren and one great-grandchild complete the family circle.

A family buffet dinner was held to celebrate the occasion.

Harry Rorabaugh

Harry Ernest Rorabaugh, 71, of Commodore RD 1, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at his home.

The son of Ernest Clair [Rorabaugh] and Helen Ann Murray, he was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Grant Township.

Mr. Rorabaugh was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Clymer. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Father McNelis Assembly Council 1486, Indiana.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Airborne Division.

Mr. Rorabaugh was retired from the U.S. Department of Labor, Mine Safety and Health Administration, located in Hastings where he had been employed as a federal mine inspector.

He and his wife, the former Irene Boruch, would have observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 10, 1998.

Surviving are his wife; six children: Donna and her husband, William Batten, Commodore RD 1; Sonya and her husband, Garold Russell, Commodore RD 1; Harry T. and his wife, Marilyn, Indiana RD 3; Matthew and his wife, Deborah, Commodore RD 1; Mary, Commodore RD 1; Joseph and his wife Debra, Clymer RD 1; 17 grandchildren , and one great-grandchild; a sister, Hope Collins, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and a brother, Paul and his wife, Maryann, Commodore RD 1.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Howard; two sisters, Nora Ginter and Della Weatherington; and an infant grandson, Damian Rorabaugh.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Albert E. Rairigh Funeral Home, Hillsdale, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Resurrection, Clymer, with Rev. Father Stephen Bugay as celebrant. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Dixonville.

WILLIAM G. RORABAUGH, of Clymer, died in the Indiana Hospital yesterday morning [July 10, 1947] at 12:28 o’clock.

He was a son of John Wesley and Ellei Hanna Rorabaugh.

Surviving are his widow, Alice Dunmire Rorabaugh, one son, Otto B., of Pittsburgh and one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Edna M.) Kopp of Cleveland, Ohio. Two grandchildren William Rorabaugh of Pittsburgh and Dwight Kopp of Cleveland, also survive.

The deceased was a brother of Frank Rorabaugh of Marion Center, R. D., and Mrs. Minnie McQuown of Rochester Mills, R. D.

Mr. Rorabaugh was a member of the Clymer Methodist Church and the Men’s Adult Bible Class. He had lived in East Mahoning and Canoe townships before coming to Clymer 35 years ago.

Friends will be received at Robinson’s, Indiana, after 2:00 o’clock this afternoon. Services will be held in the funeral home tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Reverend John Dawson will officiate. Interment will be made in the Marion Center Cemetery.

Neighbors Die

SUMMERHILL, April 10 [1930] – Two of Summerhill’s oldest residents died on Wednesday evening within two hours. Mrs. Rachel Matilda Nipps, aged 84, passing away at 6:30 o’clock at the home of her nephew, Benjamin Pringle, two hours after the death of her neighbor, Mrs. Catherine Rorabaugh, aged 78. The Pringle home adjoins the Rorabaugh homestead.

Mrs. Catherine Rorabaugh was born in Taylorsville, Indiana county, daughter of the late James and Ann Anderson Lydic. She and Henry Rorabaugh, who survives, were married 55 years ago. No children survive this union. Mrs. Rorabaugh was a sister of Mrs. Margaret Reathmiller and Mrs. Della Allison, both of Indiana, and Miss Carrie Lydic of this place.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rorabaugh will be conducted Saturday in the Lutheran church, in charge of the Rev. F. S. Schultz, pastor. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Nipps was a daughter of the late Allan and Rebecca Flenner Sharp. Her husband, William Nipps, died January 2, 1926. She is survived by a brother, Joseph Sharp, Wilmore, and two step-children, Mrs. Elizabeth Bruich, Johnstown, and John Nipps, Lakewood, O.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday in the Lutheran church, the Rev. Mr. Schultz, officiating. Interment will be in the Pringle Hill cemetery.

Robert Reed Rorabaugh, 79, Mahaffey RD 2, died Sunday, May 24, 1998, at the Indiana Hospital.

Born in Burnside Township, Clearfield County, on Jan. 19, 1919, he was the son of James R. and Frances Henchbarger Rorabaugh.

He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Burnside.

A graduate of Cherry Tree High School in 1938, he was employed by the Westinghouse Corp. of Pittsburgh where he transported airplane propellers to Milwaukee during World War II. He also owned and operated a beef cattle farm in Burnside Township. In the late 1940’s he work in the area coal fields with various organizations and hauled coal.

From 1951 to 1958 he and Foster Blose owned and operated the Deer Run Lumber Company in Deer Run, Pa., and later moved that business to Hillsdale. In 1958 he established the Rorabaugh Lumber Company in Burnside which is still in operation today. His sons joined him in that business in 1873.

Surviving are his wife, S. Marie Blose Rorabaugh, whom he married on July 17, 1948; these children, Robert D. Rorabaugh and wife Barbara White; Daniel J. and wife Darlene Abramovich; Roger D. Rorabaugh and wife Kathleen White; and one son-in-law, Dennis Douthitt, all of Mahaffey RD 2, and eight grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, M. Lucinda Rorabaugh, Clearfield, and two brothers, James A. Rorabaugh, Punxsutawney, and William E. Rorabaugh, Mahaffey RD 2.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Elaine M. Douthitt, who died June 20, 1980; and two sisters, Catherine Rorabaugh and Ethel J. Lewis.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Rairigh Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Burnside at noon on Wednesday with the Rev. Ronald Marshall officiating. Interment will be in the Burnside Cemetery.

James A. Rorabaugh, 72, of Mahaffey RD 1, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, in Miners Hospital, Spangler.

A son of Golden and Pearl Hurd Rorabaugh, he was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Burnside Township.

He attended the Mt. Carmel Church.

Mr. Rorabaugh was a heavy equipment operator for Thomas & Benjamin Coal Companies and was a bus driver with the Harmony School District for 15 years.

Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years whom he married Nov. 11, 1945, Grace Bouch Rorabaugh; a son, James A. Rorabaugh Jr. and his wife, Lisa, Mahaffey; five daughters: Mrs. Kenneth (Doris) Lechene, Huntsville, Ohio; Mrs. Thomas (Joyce) Corson, Casper, Wy.; Mrs. Dwight (Ruth) Read, West Decatur; Mrs. Joseph (JoAnn) Niebauer, Irvona; Mrs. Audie (Donna) Pentz, Grampian; a brother, Charles Rorabaugh, Mahaffey; and two sisters, Helen Harkleroad, Westover; and Ethel Owrey, Miami, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frederick Rorabaugh; and two sisters, Grace Leamer and Eunice Beck.

Friends will be received today from 7-9 p.m. and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the T.G. McCracken Funeral Home, Mahaffey. Tracey Jo Helsel of Seward and Airman Mark Richard Caldwell were recently married at the First Presbyterian Church of Winchester, Va., with the bride’s parents, Jack and Audrey Helsel, attending. The groom is the son of Richard and Nancy Caldwell of New Florence RD. The newlyweds are living in Layton, Va., where Caldwell is a fuel specialist at Hill Air Force Base.

Dawn Alene Helsel and Randy Louis George were married Aug. 18 [1990] at the Elton Zion United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul Scruton, retired chaplain from Arbutus Park Manor, performed the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Helsel of Elton. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clement George of Beaverdale.

The newlyweds reside in Beaverdale.

Hadden-Helsel Nuptials

Formal announcement of the marriage of Miss Helen Helsel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Helsel of 421 Vickroy Ave., Ferndale, Johnstown, Pa., to Mr. Jess S. Hadden, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Hadden, of Clymer, Pa., was made by the bride’s parents at a formal dinner in their home on Tuesday evening, February 23 [1932].

The wedding ceremony was performed April 1, 1931, in the First Evangelical Church, Altoona, by the Rev. H. C. Kleffel. The couple then spent their honeymoon in Baltimore, Westminster, Md., and Washington, D. C.

Mrs. Hadden was graduated from Ferndale High School in 1928 and from Indiana State Teachers College in 1930. At present she is teaching at Holsopple, Pa. Mr. Hadden was graduated from the Commodore High School, Indiana County, and later attended Indiana State Teachers College. He is principal of the Benson Borough School at Holsopple. The couple are for the present residing with Mrs. Hadden’s sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Howard, 540 Summit Avenue, Ferndale.

Those attending the dinner were: Mr. and Mrs. David Helsel, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald McGarvey, Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Howard and Mr. and Mrs. Jess Hadden.

Mr. Helsel and family are former residents of Wells Tannery, Fulton county, Pa.

He was born Sept. 24, 1914 at Portage.

He was a veteran of WW II and a member of the Saltsburg United Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lucille McBryar Helsel; one stepson: Rodney B. Lewis, New Kensington; his mother, Mrs. Mary Beals, Syracuse, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Palmisano, Syracuse, N.Y.; one aunt, Mrs. Julia Stafford, Saltsburg; also three grandchildren.

James E. Helsel, 59, of MR 1, Saltsburg, died unexpectedly April 16 [1974] at Latrobe hospital. He had been preparing to return home when death came. He had been hospitalized several times in recent months.

He was born in Portage, Cambria County, Sept. 24, 1914, and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the Saltsburg United Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Mary Beals in Syracuse, N.Y.; his wife, Mrs. Lucille McBryar Helsel; a stepson, Rodney B. Lewis of New Kensington; a sister, Mrs. Mary Palmisano in Syracuse; an aunt, Mrs. Julia Stafford of Saltsburg and three grandchildren.

Friends were received at the Joseph R. Hunter Funeral Home in Saltsburg where services were held last Friday, April 19, at 1:30 p.m. in charge of his pastor, the Rev. Richard D. Adams and burial was in the Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg.

Lucille M. Helsel, 78, of 117 Washington St., Saltsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at the Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona heights.

Born April 26, 1918, in Avonmore, she was a daughter of Fred Wilson and Gladys McBryar Horrell.

Mrs. Helsel was a member of the Tunnelton Presbyterian Church and had lived in Tunnelton and Saltsburg most of her life.

Prior to her retirement in 1978, she had worked for Federal Laboratories in Tunnelton for 35 years as a laborer.

Surviving are one son, Rodney B. Lewis and wife Evelyn Clawson, New Kensington; two half-sisters: Ethel Wilding, Philadelphia; Sybil Domenick, Lucernemines; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James E. Helsel; two half-sisters: Erma Dick and Lola Gartley.

Friends will be received today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Curran Funeral Home, Saltsburg, where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Interment will take place in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.

Five Generations Meet Together

Mrs. Helsel died of pneumonia at her home at Parkwood on Saturday morning [Dec. 26, 1903]. She was about 70 years old and is survived by her husband. Interment was made in the West Union cemetery, Rev. Williams conducting the services.

Funeral services will be held in the McCabe Funeral home in Ambridge Saturday for Mrs. Emma Jean Berkey Helsel, who died yesterday I the Beaver Valley Hospital.

Mrs. Helsel, 42, was born in Punxsutawney and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Berkey. She was married to Lester Helsel.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two children – Ken, stationed in Hawaii and Janet, at home, and the following brothers: Clyde Berkey, of Wintersville, Ohio; Paul Berkey, of Niagara Falls, New York; Howard Berkey, of North Towanda, New York and Earl Berkey, of Punxsutawney. The following sister also survive: Mrs. Elsie Young, Mrs. Betty Cukanna, Mrs. Pauline Shirey and Mrs. Anna Witman, all of the Punxsutawney area.

Margaret L. Helsel, 56, 20-year Swarthmore resident

Margaret L. Helsel, 56, of Swarthmore, a naturalist who enjoyed traveling, died yesterday at the Bryn Mawr Terrace nursing home.

Born in Johnstown, Pa., Mrs. Helsel resided in Swarthmore for the past 20 years.

She pursued her interest in nature for many years.

Mrs. Helsel is survived by her husband of 27 years, James H. Helsel; two sons, Scott A. Helsel and Glenn D. Helsel, both of Swarthmore; four daughters, Deborah Swaney of Swarthmore, Carol W. Stewart of Avondale, Pa., Patricia A. Helsel of St. Joseph, Mo., and Joyce H. Plank of Media; her mother, Violet Williams of Groton, Conn.; two brothers, William Williams of Johnstown and David Williams of Homer City, Pa.; three sisters, Viola Bonner of Rockville, Md., Dorothy Tochia of Johnstown and Roberta Adams of Groton, Conn.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the White-Lattrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park. Burial will be in Edgewood Memorial Park, Concordville. A calling period will be after 7 tonight at the funeral home.

E. Jean Helsel, 62, of the Forks Church area, Gilpin Township, died Saturday at her home.

She was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Gilpin Township, to the late A.O. and Nellie (Schall) Lessig.

A lifelong resident of the Gilpin Township area, she was employed as a bookkeeper at the Fondrk Hardware Store, Leechburg, from where she retired in 1984, following 20 years of service.

She enjoyed sewing and was a member of the Forks Zion Lutheran Church, Gilpin Township, the Sokol Lodge, Leechburg, and the Sokol Pool League.

She is survived by three sons, James W. of Parks Township, and Donald R. and Jay d., both of Gilpin Township; five daughters, Mrs. William (Pamela) Smail of Bethel Township, Linda Helsel at home, Mrs. Larry (Diane) Anthony of West Kittanning, Mrs. James (Debra) Fester of Ford City, and Nancy Briggs of Allegheny Township; a brother, David “Peck” Lessig of Gilpin Township; two sisters, Mrs. Blair (Dorothy) Schall of West Leechburg and Mrs. Roy (Pauline) Fiscus; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Helsel, on April 6, 1981.

HELSEL – Friends of E. Jean Helsel, 62, of the Forks Church area, Gilpin Township, who died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1986, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Clawson’s, Second at Main, Leechburg, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Her pastor, the Rev. James M. McCormick, will officiate. Entombment will be in the Greenwood Mausoleum, Lower Burrell. Arrangements are by Clawson’s.

Anniversary Celebration On The Road

Warren and Audrey Helsel of Seward RD 2 recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary with a picnic supper at the foot of Mammoth Falls in Yellowstone National Park.

Helping them celebrate were their daughters Tammy, Layton, Utah, and her friend Eric Stoker of Hill AFB, and Tracey Jo and her husband Mark Caldwell, son of Richard and Nancy Caldwell of Fairfield Township, and their son Travis Richard.

The Caldwells are also stationed at Hill AFB.

Also attending were their grandsons Justin and Jordan, sons of the Helsels’ son Randy and his wife Cathy of Bridgeville, Del.

The Helsels also have a grandson, Judah Levi, son of Randy and Cathy.

The Helsels were married in June 23, 1956 in Oakland Methodist Church by the former pastor, Rev. Benton R. McKee.

They have lived in Seward for 22 years, where Mr. Helsel works for M&C Trucking.

Rainey – VanVeenendaal

HILLSDALE – Lisa Dianne Rainey and Gerry VanVeenendaal, both of Hollidaysburg, recently exchanged wedding vows during a double-ring ceremony officiated by Father John Moineau at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Indiana.

The couple’s parents are Kenneth and Linda Rainey, Hillsdale, and Hendrik and Ann VanVeenendaal, Duncansville.

Musical selections were performed by organist Robin Malloy.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride chose Nina Cortese, Pittsburgh, as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were the bride’s sisters Shelley and Julie Rainey, both of Hillsdale; Morrya Jones, Alexandria, Va.; and Sherry McGee, Pittsburgh.

The groom’s niece Sarah Averill, Myrtle Beach, S.C., was flower girl.

The groom chose Frank Bub, Kingston, N.Y., as best man. Ushers were Mike Thomas, York; Jeff Davis, Winchester, Va.; Eric Duft, Pittsburgh; and Jason Raab, Albany, N.Y.

A reception was held at the Rocky Glen Inn, Home.

A 1987 alumna of Purchase Line High School, the bride earned a bachelor’s in management in 1991 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

The groom, a 1986 alumnus of Hollidaysburg High School, earned a bachelor’s in criminology in 1991 from IUP. He is employed by Atlantic Lumber Co., Crystal Spring.

After a seven-day wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple live in Hollidaysburg.

Wedding anniversary

HILLSDALE – Ken and Linda Rainey, Hillsdale, celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary today.

The couple was married June 29, 1968. They have three daughters: Lisa, Hollidaysburg; Shelley, State College; and Julie, Hillsdale.

Mrs. Rainey owns and operates a custom drapery business in Hillsdale. Her husband is a student at Penn State University.
