WHY DOESN'T GOD SPEAK

MY LANGUAGE?

.

"If your God is so great, why doesn’t He speak my language?” These are the words spoken by a Cakchiquel Indian in Guatemala to Cameron Townsend at the end of the First World War. It changed Townsend's entire life. He abandoned his attempts to sell Bibles and began living among the Cakchiquels. He learned their mother tongue, created an alphabet for it, analyzed the grammar, and translated the New Testament into their language in the short span of ten years. And that was the beginning of the Wycliffe Bible Translators, a tremendous ministry that continues to this day to translate the Bible into various languages.

From the inception of the Harvestime ministry in 1983, we had a vision to translate the courses into various languages to expedite training of national Christian leaders. The first breakthrough came when the courses were translated into Spanish. Then came Portuguese, Russian, Tagalog, and Thai. We recently completed French, are close to completing Sinhala, and we are working on Tamil and Urdu. We have some of the courses in Chinese and a few in Kurdish, and are committed to finishing these languages and others as the Lord enables.

Our vision is similar to that of those raised up under Nehemiah who "...read from the Book of the Law of God distinctly, faithfully amplifying and giving the sense so that the people understood the reading" (Nehemiah 8:8, TAB).

In this edition of "Network News", we share a few of many reports that reflect how these translations are impacting the world.

TAMIL: "I found your valuable materials in the Tamil language. Now I am using these Tamil subjects for my teaching ministry. Please send other useful files to me to teach in my ministry."

-J.S., India

SPANISH: "Thank you so much for sending these materials in Spanish. We have officially started in a rural village in Honduras and have 16 registered students." -J.D., Honduras

ENGLISH: "I am a minister of the Gospel and have an urgent desire to be effective in the Kingdom of God.  I came across your website, and I just wanted to say thank you, for making your study materials available.  It is exactly what I was looking for!  Truly Harvestime is a God-given idea, enabling others to open schools of their own, if they so desire--what a blessing! Your ministry will enable thousands, even millions, to deepen their relationship with Christ. I know that the Lord is pleased with your obedience." -P.G.,USA

FRENCH: "We bring you greetings from the City of Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on the coast of West Africa where God is doing great things in the lives of rural pastors from the four corners of this war-torn nation.  We're grateful to God for your prayers and support for our two-year training program for pastors working in rural areas in Cote d'Ivoire." -M.Y, Ivory Coast

URDU: "We have started a new Bible school in Okara Pakistan with 60 students. We are in need of a full range of curriculum in their language of Urdu." -S.M., Pakistan

SINHALA: "God revealed to me that the key to reaching our nation is to train and equip full time pastors and leaders, lifting them to new spiritual heights empowered by a new anointing and vision. I was given a mandate of training one thousand leaders in ten years through an ongoing training Institute. We are translating the Harvestime materials into Sinhala and Tamil to reach our nation. We are training pastors who are already in full-time ministry and corporate leaders--lay people who will invade and transform the market place using Kingdom principles." -D.S., Sri Lanka

THANK YOU PARTNERS---Your prayerful support makes the translation projects possible! We are committed to continuing to develop and translate materials "...faithfully amplifying and giving the sense so that the people understood the reading" (Nehemiah 8:8, TAB).

Yours for the harvest,

Argis and Patricia Hulsey

WHEN WILL GOD SPEAK

IN MY LANGUAGE?

"Far and near--

It is said that you, God, speak!

How do you do that?

Is it in their tongues?

If it is truly so, God, when will you speak in my tongue?

East and west, north and south,

The Creator speaks, it is said!

Not in the language as of birds;

But in other human tongues I cannot understand!

God, when will you speak in my tongue?"

These are two verses of a poem written by James Lokuuda Kadanya, a speaker of the Toposa language of South Sudan.

It illustrates the importance of translating the Word Of God and quality Bible study materials into native languages.

The Wycliffe Bible Translators are dedicated to translating the Bible into various languages around the world.

Your ministry of Harvestime is dedicated to provide training materials in various languages to help believers understand and apply the Word of God to their lives and ministries.
