Welcome back to Term 3. We hope everyone enjoyed their break. As always we are getting ready for another busy term. This started with the Small Schools Athletics Carnival last Week. Other activities will include Education Week, Book Week Parade, Soccer Gala Day, Koala Smart Project and many other engaging educational activities.

Assembly: Award winners from last assembly were, Tyler, Lachlan, Chase, Elizabeth, Bonnie, Marley, Shyla, Kalin, Ava, Aliya, Flynn and Brandon.

NAIDOC: On the last week of Term 2 our school travelled to South Kempsey Public School to celebrate NAIDOC Week. We joined several other small schools from around the Kempsey area. The children participated in a variety of cultural activities as well as sporting activities.

FREE Dental Care: NSW Health has initiated a free school-based check-up and preventative care program for all Primary School children. The mobile dental van will be at our school from 19-30 August. An information package is being sent home to each family. Parents are welcome to accompany their children during the check-up and for any follow-up care. All consent forms must be returned to school by Friday, 9 August. Further information is attached to the consent packages.

The children showed great sportsmanship and are to be complemented on their behaviour. A special mention to Shyla Clark on being awarded the 12 Year old Girls Champion on the day. Some of our students have now qualified for the District Athletics Carnival to be held at Blackbutt Oval in Wauchope on Monday 5 August.

When we reached Blackbutt Oval, it was time for the 800 meter race straight away. The under 12 girls went first and their races continued. When all of the 800 meter races finished the girls and boys split up. The girls went to the field events while the boys went to track events. The girls done Turbo, Shot Putt and Long Jump. The boys done 100 meter races, then it was lunch. After lunch the boys and girls swapped, the girls done track and the boys did field. The girls got through 100 and 200 meters while the boys done the Long Jump, Shot Putt and Turbo. After the boys finished their events they went and did 200 meters. When the boys finished the 200 meter race, we had our awards presentation. I was very excited as I won a medal for the girls 12 year old champion. Everyone had a great day. Shyla Clark

Year 5-6 Tree Planting: Our local Landcare team has invited our school to participate in a tree planting at the Rollands Plains Recreation Ground on Friday, 2 August between 9.15am and 10.45am. Children are to wear sports uniform and morning tea will be provided. Transport to the hall will be by school bus and parents are asked to provide transport back to school. Education Week: From the 5-9 August education Week will be celebrated across the state of NSW. Three of our students have been selected to receive awards from the Bago community of Schools group. Schools include Wauchope High and Primary, Long Flat, Comboyne, Huntington and us. A special congratulations to Layne, Karlsen and Lachlan on their achievements. The Education Week award ceremony is being held from 4.30 pm with afternoon tea at Wauchope High School. Students have been invited to participate in a combined choir. If your child has indicated their interest you will be contacted by staff. Science Fair: Annually Wauchope High School students present their individual and group science projects. Our Year 5 & 6 students will be attending this excursion with Mr Keane on Monday 12 August 2019. A separate note will be sent home to families with students in years 5 & 6. Sky Stories: Annually Wauchope High School present Sky Stories. Please see the attached flyer for further information. This is a great night for the whole family. Book Week: Reading is my Superpower is the theme this year for Book Week. Our parade will be on Monday 26 August. Students are invited to come dressed up as their favourite book character. Younger siblings are invited to join in the parade. All costumes will need to be made at home. Trek for Kids: On Friday 29 August, our school will be hosting a visit from the Trek for Kids group. Approximately 60 trekkers along with all of their amazing cars will be coming along to share their stories and cars with our students. The trekkers raise funds to support families and their children with severe health needs. More information will be sent home in the next newsletter, but we are asking families to support the day by sending in something to share for morning tea. Statements of Account: If you have outstanding school fees, a statement of account will be sent home with your child this week.
