MTHS ACADEMIC HONESTY

Academic Honesty (cheating & plagiarism) is a compelling principle by which we operate all aspects of student and school life. Forging attendance notes or other school documents is a serious offense and will result in disciplinary action. Academic honesty is highly valued at MTHS. Students do not cheat, nor should they tolerate those who do.  Plagiarism is the use of material produced by someone else without acknowledging its source.  Cheating is defined as an attempt to earn credit or receive a grade for course work (tests, quizzes, assignments involving computer discs, major projects and major essays) in a manner other than defined as acceptable by the teacher.  Because of the serious nature of academic honesty, violations of this code will result in loss of credit for the assignment.  Repeated infractions may result in loss of credit for the course and/or additional disciplinary action.

Scholarly Responsibility/Attendance

Due to the fact that this course is heavily discussion and hands-on based, consistent attendance is crucial to a student’s achievement. Excessive absences in a semester will lead to an “I” (Incomplete) grade because of insufficient evidence to support assigning that student a grade. Teachers are not required to allow students to make up missed assignments and/or discussions when they have an unexcused absence.

Late Work/Make up Policy

All work must be completed by the Chapter Core Assessment unless special arrangements and/or extensions are agreed upon prior to the due date. Once tests are corrected there is NO MAKE-UP ALLOWED.

The attendance policy at Mountlake Terrace High School will be strictly enforced in this class. All students will need to be in class each day, with proper materials, on time and ready to work. The Business Education Advisory Committee for the Edmonds School District has informed our Business Technology teachers that excellent attendance and a good work ethic are very important to employers. If a student is more than 10 minutes late, it will be considered an absence. It is the student’s responsibility to change his or her status from absent to tardy with the attendance office. Unexcused tardies will also have a negative impact on a student’s overall grade. There will be in class assignments that are NOT ALLOWED to be made up-no exceptions.

If you miss class you must find out about what you missed in class (lecture notes/assignments) before or after school. (I don’t have time to start class and get you caught up simultaneously)

MTHS COMPUTER LAB RULES AND STANDARDS

The following rules and standards apply to all computer labs. Anyone violating any of the following rules will lose their computer-use privileges in the entire school and may be financially responsible for any repairs.

1. Available technologies in the computer labs are to be used for academic purposes only.

2. Food, drink, gum, or candy is not allowed around the computers.

3. Do not move computers or disconnect any cords.

4. Do not attempt to access the computer hard drives or use security-breaking programs.

5. Do not load/download personal programs on any computer.

6. Scanner and color printer use is by instructor/facilitator permission only.

7. Do not waste paper by printing multiple copies or unnecessary documents.

8. No recreational gaming.

9. Cooperation, respect, and good computer-use behavior is expected.

10. Report any problems or security violations to the instructor/facilitator immediately.

11. Students each have their own folder that is accessed through a confidential password. Any student found giving their password to another student or using another student’s password, will have their account locked and will not have access to their files.

12. Students who abuse the computers or alter programs in any way will have their account locked and will not have access to their files. They will also be financially responsible for any repairs.

13. Students are expected to use appropriate language for file names, documents, and other activities.

14. Students may not use the classroom telephone without permission.

15. If you miss a class you can find out what was missed and get help during tutorial at 7:05-7:20 each morning or an arranged time with teacher.

1. Appropriate usage of cell phones, iPods, cd’s, etc. Discussion to follow with student self-management expected.

16. Usage of bathroom is permitted only with teacher permission and the bathroom passes.
