Important Changes due to COVID-19

? SLPs, Audiologists and Assistants can provide services via Telehealth

? Supervision can be conducted via Telehealth ? Need to follow all ethical, legal and safety guidelines and

protocols

HB 2059

? Texas House Bill 2059 (passed during the last legislative session) requires 1 hour (1CEU) human trafficking prevention training as a condition of certain license renewals in Texas. This applies to SLPs, SLPAs and Audiologists.

? All license renewals after September 1, 2020 will have to indicate that this training was completed.

What is Ethics?

? State of Texas Licensure Requirement ? Definition - a system of moral principles ? Sometimes referred to as a group's "code of conduct" ? Describes actions and/or conduct, not people ? Behavior ? how one conducts themselves

Why do we have a code?

? Identifying common, core values ? Communicating the values of the profession to

students and new professionals for the protection of the public ? Gaining public trust by stating what is expected of professionals ? Enforcing ethical behavior through clear statements of expectations

? The standards of the state licensure law take precedent over any other code of ethics ? Employer's code of ethics may be more stringent than the State and should be followed accordingly

? Principle II ? Individuals shall honor their responsibility to the public by providing accurate information in all communications and by providing services with honesty, integrity, and compassion

Most often ethical issues we deal with are "what's more right" degrees of right!

Is this right, more right? Then do what's MOST right!
