Research MethodologyFollowing the Guidelines of the American Psychological AssociationNameProfessorSchoolCourseDateIntroductionIn this one to two page report, it will evaluate the article done by Wood, Robling, Prout, Kinnersley, Houston & Butler (2010). I will discuss how the research methodology applies to the research conclusions. I will not focus on the topic of the article, but instead focus on how the results were obtained using qualitative methods. I will include specific examples from the readings from the text to support my writing and also cite and reference using the American Psychological Association 6th Edition Style Guide (APA). MethodologyThe researches of this article by Wood, Robling, Prout, Kinnersley, Houston & Butler (2010) was done in a qualitative research methods manner involving semi-structured interviews with 46 mothers concerning their dietary requirements. The participants of the research, the 46 mothers involved, were from socially disadvantaged communities (Wood, Robling, Prout, Kinnersley, Houston & Butler, 2010).The mothers who were interviewed had children who were aged 16 years or younger (Wood, Robling, Prout, Kinnersley, Houston & Butler, 2010). The reason why the researchers chose mothers from socially and economically disadvantaged situations is because common knowledge is that mothers from this category tend to have poorer health and nutritional intakes. The recruitment for the sampling group of participants of the 46 mothers was at random from a community in South Wales. The actual interviews of the research were conducted in the homes of the 46 mothers. Social learning theory was used as a theoretical basis because we were interested in how mothers viewed the importance and feasibility of health behavior change and how they accessed and interpreted information about family diet. Our interview guide therefore focused on participants’ beliefs about what facilitates good health, perceived responsibility for health, perceived importance of making healthy lifestyle changes, sources of dietary advice, family diet, and constraints to healthy eating. Conversation was allowed to develop naturally between the researcher and participant while ensuring that main topics were explored in sufficient depth (Wood, Robling, Prout, Kinnersley, Houston & Butler, 2010).ConclusionThis essay has been a report of the research of Wood, Robling, Prout, Kinnersley, Houston & Butler (2010) focusing on the qualitative research methodology used for their research concerning the dietary considerations of socially and economically disadvantaged mothers in South Wales.ReferenceWood, F., Robling, M., Prout, H., Kinnersley, P., Houston, H., & Butler, C.
