It is time again to prepare for our annual DRUBA Praise Service. We will be meeting as an Association on Sunday afternoon, February 21, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Uvalde. I am asking all of you to participate in several ways. First, plan on attending the celebration. We always have a great time praising the Lord together. Second, pray for our Association and for our Churches. Everyone needs prayer. Third, plan on providing just one entry to our service, whether a solo, or ensemble or choir. You may even have someone who plays piano or organ well, or even guitar or another instrument who might want to provide a praise or worship song. We do have a digital Roland drum set. (You may bring your own drums if you like, but please do not attempt to reconfigure our drums.) Our sound engineers will be available for sound check beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Please call the Association office at 830-278-5351 or Jim Jackson at 830-278-6283 or 830-486-7229 as soon as possible or at least by Monday, February 16. Please let us know the name of your group and the name of your song if you know it.

We hope to see all of you on Sunday, February 21, 2016, 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church to praise our great God together.

Tax Seminar

On February 23, 2016, there will be a Federal Income Tax seminar for ministers and churches. The location and times are still to be confirmed. This South Texas seminar is hosted by the Frio River Baptist Association, office building located in Pearsall, Texas. As soon as we learn the location and times we will let you know. Please mark it in your calendar.

The seminars will be two and a half to three hours long. The pastor’s seminar will be on their personal income tax, and staying abreast with the changes for ministers. The church seminar will be on the administration of churches to comply with the laws of the land.

I want to thank Monty Benson, chairperson of the Association Stewardship Committee, who is responsible for contacting Daniel Whitehurst from Kilgore, Texas, who is the conference speaker.

Church News:

1.  In talking with Bro. Daryl Colvin, pastor of New Light Baptist Church in Uvalde, Mrs. Rene Colvin is receiving treatment for cancer.  She is schedule to have a treatment in a few days.  He is thankful for the prayers of God’s people on behalf of his wife.  He said the more people praying for her the better.  We as an Association of churches and pastors assured him that our prayers and thoughts are with her/them.

2. Felipe Garcia, pastor of Iglesia Bautista Peniel in Eagle Pass, will retire effective January 17, 2016.  He will preach his last sermon on that day and after the service the church will honor him and his wife Eunice with a dinner/reception.  After the reception their plan is to leave for their new residence in the Round Rock/Pflugerville area.  As an Association of churches we want to remember them during their time of transition and move.  He has been pastor of Peniel church for over ten years.  He was moderator of the Association, member of many committees, and a supporter of the work of the Association.

3. As an Association of churches we join in expressing condolences to Dan and Anne Bliss for the passing of his mother during the Christmas season.  His mother lived in Saint Louis, Missouri.  We pray the Lord will give comfort and peace to them and the extended family.  Dan is pastor of La Pryor Baptist Church and is our current Association moderator.

4. On December 20, 2015, the Del Rio congregations hosted Baptist churches from San Angelo who came for a one day outreach event at the civic center called “Christmas on the Border”. The San Angelo churched rented the civic center and together with the Del Rio Pastors planned the whole day. They planned a worship rally in English and Spanish simultaneously. Had various booths where the Del Rio church members passed out New Testaments, tracts and shared the Gospel and prayed with individuals. They also passed out Christmas gifts to children and enjoyed the Celebration Station’s bounce houses. Although attendance figures are not available at this time it was a well-attended outreach event with many persons accepting Christ. The contact church in Del Rio was Esperanza Del Rio Community Church where Jim Wilson is Pastor.

5. As an Association of churches we join in expressing condolences to Michael and Lindy Howard for the passing of his sister during the Christmas season. We pray the Lord will give comfort and peace to them and the extended family. Michael is pastor of Frio Canyon Baptist Church in Leakey.

6. On Saturday afternoon, December 19, 2015, Iglesia Bautista Unida dedicated their new sanctuary. A good representation of Association churches were in attendance, including a number of members from The Heart of Texas Baptist Association who made the construction of this building their ministry project. The beautiful sanctuary was made possible through the hard work of their church members along with donations from other churches of money, pews, a piano, and nursery items. Their plan is to begin building educational space to go along with the sanctuary as soon as possible. We congratulate the church for their new building. The pastor is Gamaliel Barboza.
